Beyond: Two Souls Review | ScrewAttack

ScrewAttack: "I don't want to ruin anything, so I will simply say I found BEYOND: Two Souls to be a fascinating work of science fiction, with an enjoyable mechanic thanks to the characters you engage with. The flaky gesture based combat system or lack of any sort of "fear of failure" didn't detract from an overall entertaining experience. It isn't exactly a graphical pioneer, but it still remains visually impressive throughout. Quantic Dream has managed to create another unique experience for the PS3 by continuing to push forward the current generation. Even as we move into the future."

Digital Trends: "Quantic Dreams interactive drama, Beyond: Two Souls, stars Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe in a game you experience, as much as a game you play."

Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) review | InsideTheBox

Beyond: Two Souls is Quantic Dreams latest, and most ambitious game yet. With some very impressive names behind the game, such as David Cage (writer director) and Ellen Page Willem Dafoe (voice acting), you would expect big things from the game. However, if you have seen some of the reviews, you may get a different picture. We found the experience to be outstanding in graphics, presentation and acting, but the story unfortunately holds the title back.

News: Yoshida excited for Cage's PS4 project despite Beyond: Two Souls reception

Added: 09.10.2013 9:49 | 2 views | 0 comments

Worldwide studios boss "reassured" Cage about his excitement for next-gen title.

"...so I visited David [Cage] at [Quantic Dream's] office in Paris", tweeted Yoshida following yesterday's reviews, "shared my honest feedback with Beyond, reassured how much I'm excited with his next project."

Though Yoshida chose not to reveal what his feedback was, the wording of his tweet suggests he may have lacked some confidence in the project, which sees Ellen Page starring as Jodie Holmes, a young woman with the power to summon a mysterious spiritual being.

Opinions on the game have ranged massively, with scores ranging between 3/10 and a 5/5. Our review,...

Tell GR: Can A Compelling Narrative Make Up For Weak Gameplay?

Added: 09.10.2013 1:30 | 3 views | 0 comments

Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls launched today, and GameRevolution's very own "Ninja" Nick Tan enjoyed it quite a bit. Those familiar with David Cage's work know all too well what to expect, as the man behind Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain has made it readily clear that his games put storytelling first and gameplay at a distant second (or third... or fourth).

David Cage Believes "No One Should Be Allowed To Define What A Video Game Is"

Added: 08.10.2013 23:42 | 16 views | 0 comments

David Cage, studio head for Quantic Dream and wonderfully impersonated by our very own Blake Peterson, in an interview with Gamespot, doesn't believe that his more narrative-driven video games should be relegated to the corner of the video game as merely interactive movies: Some people can be very conservative about this medium and this is sometimes frustrating. Some people wish that games would always stay what they were in the past 30 years, just with more polygons. No one should be allowed to define what a video game is or should be; no one has this power. Much like the argument that everything is art, he believes that the video game medium shouldn't have too many boundaries: A video game can be so many different things. Angry Birds is a game; Call of Duty is a game; World of Warcraft is a game; Gone Home is a game. Who can decide 'you are a video game', 'you are not a video game', 'you are not a part of this family?' No. Let's open this medium to whoever has different ideas and it's great to see people trying to do games where shooting is not the main thing.

Beyond is a supernatural 'interactive drama' from Heavy Rain developers Quantic Dream. Despite some excellent direction and a stellar performance from Ellen Page, the game's plot is erratic and unfocussed. Tom Hoggins explores a "fascinating mess".
