High Moon Studios surprisingly well received Cybertron saga hinted at a promising future for Transformers as a credible release in the gaming calendar. 2010s War for Cybertron and 2012s Fall of Cybertron both made it wholly satisfying to take on the role of the robots in disguise, and provided a seemingly solid base for the series to propel itself to even greater levels of critical and commercial success. In 2014, however, with Activision sensing the need to put out a game to coincide with this summers fourth installment in Michael Bays film series, that blueprint has been utilized as little more than a cheap and easy way of milking the cash cow. Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark cuts so many corners that its a wonder why it hasnt been served up in stores in a pizza box.
