For all the backlash against Microsoft's now-repealed online requirement for Xbox One, the games industry remains sold on online games, with broadband-dependent titles among the biggest on show at this year's E3. The Division - a show-stealing surprise from Ubisoft - is one of them, an online role-playing game in which you play a member of the titular group, a Spec Ops force battling for control of a pandemic-stricken New York. As we revealed a few months back, the basics look a bit like Clancy stablemate Splinter Cell, but this is a shared world, seeming full of human opponents, and the main story is shaped by the encounters you have with other players.

However, the subsequent games then harbored the lopsided goal of expanding its audience, and perhaps it was foolhardy at best. But Ubisoft has not relented and put a lot of effort into this new release with the same mindset. With a new developer, Ubisoft Toronto, and a considerable bit of hype behind it, Splinter Cell: Blacklist is set to make it finally work.

American espionage author Tom Clancy may have his name plastered all over the box, but he hasnt written a single Splinter Cell book. The series is wholly a Ubisoft creation, allowing the publisher free reign over the franchises creative direction to best suit whatever purpose it would like.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is a decent game. While the story isnt always stellar the gameplay is fun and enjoyable. The game also offers a decent amount of replay value with extra missions and online multiplayer mode. However, the Xbox 360 version of the game does appear to have numerous minor bugs.
