The Women of Grand Theft Auto V: Volume 2

Added: 03.10.2013 1:00 | 3 views | 0 comments

*That's me on the left!
I finally finished Grand Theft Auto V. Just so you know, I think that it was executed beautifully using three protagonists, and I look forward to how they expand on it in the future with DLC. I didn't start making this list to say that the women in Grand Theft Auto V are all poorly written and I hate the game.

The Women of Grand Theft Auto V: Volume 1

Added: 21.09.2013 23:15 | 9 views | 0 comments

I know that Grand Theft Auto V, and most every other mainstream game imaginable, is more geared toward the heterosexual male audience. I know that. I wish game studios would open their eyes and see past that, but I've given up on the big name-brand game studios to deliver diversity in protagonist design aside from role-playing games where you can create your own character. Dan Houser sealed the nail on Rockstar's no women in GTA track record by saying: "...the concept of being masculine was so key to this story." Well, after he said that, I couldn't wait to see what GTAV had in store for me, especially when it came to the women of the game. When I first got into the series I started with Vice City and then moved onto San Andreas where I really started to embrace the world of Grand Theft Auto. Cruising around for hours on motorcycles, eating cheeseburgers, going to the stip club, going to the gym to work off the cheeseburgers. It was downright fun.

Microsoft: Women make up nearly 40 percent of Xbox Live "audience" in US

Added: 21.09.2013 0:54 | 4 views | 0 comments

COO Kevin Turner says figure is a "giant change" from when Xbox Live originally launched; 42 percent of users in the US watch 30 hours of digital TV and movies per month.

Almost 40 percent of the Xbox Live "audience" in the United States is female, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner revealed this week during the company's financial analysts meeting 2013.

It is not clear how Microsoft qualifies "audience" in this context. A Microsoft spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.

Turner said this 40 percent figure represents a "giant change" from when Xbox Live was originally introduced, though no specific numbers were provided.

Also during the presentation, Turner reiterated that Xbox Live has 48 million members in 41 countries. In addition, he revealed that 42 percent of Xbox Live subscribers in the U.S. watch 30 hours of digitally distributed TV and movies every month.

In 2012 alone, Turner said the Xbox platform delivered over 18 billion hours of entertainment globally.

Looking ahead to the Xbox One, Turner said the system is poised to have a successful launch.

"And we're excited about the upcoming Xbox One launch. We believe we've got an incredible offering with Xbox One as it relates to multiplayer experiences and services," Turner said. "It's going to give you--we've wrapped a lot of entertainment with the product as well, and we believe we've got our strongest game lineup, and the external pundits say it as well, that we've ever had to be able to offer as a company."

Women are being hyper-sexualised in video games: Australian academic

Added: 18.09.2013 2:24 | 4 views | 0 comments

Hideo Kojimas recent decision to sexualise Quiet, a female character appearing in the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 5 game, has prompted a prominent Australian academic to issue a reality check to the industry. Kojima was originally quoted as saying he wanted to create a more erotic character when Quiet, a female protagonist in MGS5, appeared scantily in combat gear. He later clarified that he meant sexy but does that make Kojimas intentions any better or worse? Australian gender studies expert Dr Liz Conor from Monash University says no.
