Sony announced its plans to launch PlayStation Vue, a new cloud-based TV service that will bring "live TV, movies and sports without a cable or satellite subscription."
The new video streaming service will launch with support from a number of networks, including Showtime, Fox Soccer, and a brand new channel from Machinima.
According to Sony's Andrew House, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to subscribe to PlayStation Vue packages at a discounted rate.
Sony is expected to release more details on the service soon.
At Sony's E3 press conference tonight, the company showed off a CG trailer for , giving us a look at Evie Frye in action, and revealing some details on PlayStation-exclusive content.
Evie, the twin brother of fellow protagonist Jacob Frye, appears to play in a more stealthy fashion than Jacob. The CG trailer showed her navigating London and then taking on a number of enemies while Jacob offered voiceover. She could be seen using the new Cane-Sword weapon, as well as throwing knives.
After seeing Evie, Sony's Adam Boyes revealed that the PS4 version of Syndicate will include some exclusive content in the form of the Dreadful Crimes missions. These will let you play as your choice of Jacob or Evie as you attempt solve various crimes.
Ubisoft’s E3 2015 press conference trailer for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was a packed content showcase of the series’ first foray into Victorian era England. That includes the return of horse carriage pursuits, concealment with the donning of hoods, and lethal takedowns from above.
I don’t know what is the significance of the Devil’s Acre--the presumed primary setting of Syndicate’s London--but there is a similarly named locale in San Francisco where “you could raise ten men for any adventure in as many minutes." Coincidentally, this place gained notoriety in the 1860s, the same time setting as Syndicate. More importantly, this is the time of the Industrial Revolution, so using the exploitation of child labor in factories as a major plot device greatly fits this Dickensian vision of the city.
The trailer also shows the social prowess of co-protagonist Jacob Frye. It’s a twist on the franchise’s designs on the multiplayer-driven “brotherhood”. Rather than enlisting skilled assassins, Frye is enlisting any member of the local citizenry to oppose authority figures and those running the hazardous factories. Known as The Rooks, Frye’s gang moves with confidence and swagger straight out the musical Oliver! and I’m genuinely curious how this gang fits into the game’s narrative and the franchise’s overall lore.
Last but not least, it's Sony's turn to contribute its two cents to today's string of E3 2015 press conferences. So what will we see?
