Crytek is best known for shooty-shooty bang-bang action games that are quite good until they introduce the aliens like Far Cry and Crysis.
And Fibble! Mustn't forget Fibble. Never forget gooey iOS physics puzzle game Fibble.
Now, the studio has returned to mobile with a simple free-to-play squad-based shooter called The Collectables. It's got trading cards, fancy CryEngine visuals, and -...

By giving Xbox One its mandatory early visual powerhouse despite all the doomsaying about the hardwares horsepower Ryse was arguably the consoles most important launch title. It disrupted the narrative, leaving many players clueless as to what the platform can really achieve. Its certainly hard to imagine more on day one in terms of presentation and ensemble performance capture. As technical art director Christopher Evans and cinematic director Peter Gornstein explain, achieving such results involved risks, experimentation and lots of research.

Aoife checks out some of Hollywood's most influential flicks.
That the gap between gaming and cinema is narrower than ever before is a given - developers like Crytek boast that their games are now as high fidelity as the latest Hollywood blockbusters. But in truth, film and videogames have always enjoyed a close symbiotic relationship. Would Red Dead Redemption be the same game if A Fistful of Dollars had never existed? Would there have been a Dino Crisis if not for Jurassic Park? Somehow, I doubt it.

| GotGame: Review | Ryse: Son of Rome

GotGame: Ryse is a game that boasts some of the best graphics weve ever seen on a console and has a really cool story to match, but stops just shy of being a great game. Thats not to say its not recommended to check out, but a part of me wishes it just had a little bit more to offer. Ultimately, the game is a good start for Crytek on next-gen and I cant wait to see what comes next.

Geek Chic Elite - "Ryse: Son of Rome by Crytek is a title that has been sitting on the back burner for quite some time now. Originally announced at E3 2011 as a Kinect-only title for the Xbox 360, this at the time looked like a disaster waiting to happen. Skip forward two years to the announcement of the Xbox One and Ryse finally re-appeared as a launch title; one with a ton of potential to boot. Crytek has done a spectacular job here visually and looks every bit next-gen, however as we dig in to the game, we find all is not quite perfect in Rome."
