, went on to found Heavy Spectrum with his wife. Though the project would likely be far further along in production had he hired more staff, Birch would be the one paying the salaries, and as such decided to keep the team small. "I really appreciate how Sony respected my wishes for the studio to stay creative and small," he says. "Sony is one of the companies that are still trying to make games better." For Birch, better doesn't necessarily mean original. In terms of its core combat design, Shadow of the Beast has common with games from the eighties (Kung Fu Master, Double Dragon, et al) than those of the modern era. Granted, there is a God of War rhythm to the light and heavy attacks, and moments of strategy and counter-hits, but overall it's a cathartic massacre played out by pressing the same sequence of buttons a few hundred times. Blood splatters on the screen frequently enough to be desensitised after ten minutes.Which is to say, it's just like the original Shadow of the Beast; a game released 25 years ago and generally forgotten by the masses, but arguably the reason why Birch took a career in games and wanted to retell its story to new people. "Shadow of the Beast was a defining moment of my childhood. I remember going around a friend's house; he just got an Amiga and showed me the game. I remember being just... awestruck by it, and every time I took the bus home from his house it was all I could think of. "Those bus journeys were probably the moment I realised games were not just about challenge. They have worlds and stories that you can take with you." Shadow of the Beast will ship exclusively on PlayStation 4. Heavy Spectrum has yet to confirm its release date plans.

XBA:
How in the hell do you even review a game like Goat Simulator? That's a question I've been asking myself a lot during my extensive playtime with Coffee Stain Studios and Double Eleven's notorious indie title, racking my brains as to the best approach in assessing and coming up with a verdict for what might just be one of the most surreal things I've ever experienced. Ever. Seriously, I actually had nightmares about goats last night.

| GR Interviews: First Successfully Kickstarted Game, High Strangeness, Developer Ben Shostak!

It's been a long road for Ben Shostak, the developer of High Strangeness and wwner and Lead Developer of Barnyard Intelligence Games
Shostak paired with Steve Jenkins to run their original Kickstarter campaign for just $1,500, and only received an extra $59. So it's no surprise that it's taken six years to produce the finished product, compared to the days after Double Fine Adventure, when a game like High Strangeness would likely have garnered tens of thousands for its concept.

| Goat Simulator Review - Glitch Cat

Glitch Cat - Coffee Stain Studios and Double Elevens Goat Simulator is good, wacky fun thatll have you giggling at all the absurdity youll see onscreen, but at the end of the day, its only entertaining for so long. Fans of weird, gimmicky casual games will instantly fall in love with this game, but others will play for a while and then move on. Its an entertaining game for sure, but the length of fun all really depends on the player.

Westerns may not be as popular or as fun as they used to be, but you couldnt tell by playing Westerado: Double Barreled. Part of the Adult Swim Games indie game initiative, Ostrich Banditos open-world adventure takes you into the world of a cowboy, whose mother and brother were murdered and he must find the man responsible. In order to do so, however, you must gather clues about the killer from the people you encounter during your adventure. Sometimes, the clues are easy to come by, but other times, it may take a littlepersuasion, if you will.

Coffee stain studios are a fairly new name in the industry, and the Swedish developers shot to fame with the impressive Sanctum, and for console gamers Sanctum 2 for Xbox 360.
During an in-house Game Jam they had a new creation which was showcased on YouTube and it took the world by storm, Was it a new FPS/Tower defense hybrid, maybe a Sci-Fi shooter
It was of course Goat Simulator and over the last year, Its got much more than a cult following, selling literally millions of copies across PC and mobile, and now with Double Eleven Studios helping out with development and publishing its heading to the Xbox One.

| 6 Years Later: The First Kickstarted Video Game is Out in May
Added: 15.04.2015 6:17 | 4 views | 0 comments
Marcus Estrada writes: "When people think back to the first campaign they supported on Kickstarter they often reference Double Fine Adventure. In 2012, this campaign provided an amazing service to Kickstarter by getting the name (and concept of crowdfunding) out there. However, they were not the first to have a successful game campaign. High Strangeness, which was funded back in 2009, actually stands as the first Kickstarted video game. By that token, it also has the unfortunate distinction of having the longest post-Kickstarter to launch development cycle. Some six years later we're finally at the end of the journey as High Strangeness was just given a release date. Seriously!"
