Metro:
If youre tired of saving New York or racing round L.A., then the creators of Dear Esther offer a nice walking holiday in Shropshire
As accurate as it might be, there cant be many game descriptions less appealing than a walking simulator. But over the last few years its become a clearly defined sub-genre, and in large part thanks to 2012 indie game Dear Esther to which this is a spiritual sequel. Since then weve had genuine classics such as Gone Home and The Stanley Parable, that have been responsible for some of gamings most inspired storytelling. But Everybodys Gone To The Rapture doesnt quite scale those same heights.

"Everybodys Gone To The Rapture is a game that has intrigued me ever since the title was announced because not much had been known about it. This was a game that wouldnt have any (visual) violence. Developer The Chinese Room wanted to tell a story, and just happened to use video games as the medium because they believed it was the best way to immerse their audience in the story. For the most part, The Chinese Room is successful in making the participant feel totally immersed in this beautiful world even if some slow pacing (literally) and lack of interactivity in the environment hamper the end product. -- PlayStation Enthusiast

Gamespresso: At times astoundingly beautiful, with amazing writing, and one of the best soundtracks ever made for a video game, Everybodys Gone to the Rapture tells the intriguing, heartbreaking story of the apocalypse starting in a small English community in Shopshire in the 1980s.

"As light on gameplay as it is, Everbodys Gone to the Rapture is as beautiful as it is thought provoking. Its hard to find fault with its technical prowess, showcasing just how detailed interactive media can be, but on top of this we have a narrative that is disjointed yet somehow works wonderfully as it increases curiosity, and music that is poignant in all the right ways. If Dear Esther was pretentious, in my eyes, Everybodys Gone to the Rapture can only be described as enrapturing."

"Yet, even with the speed issues plaguing the game, it is definitely an experience worth walking through. The mystery surrounding the disappearances, and the hearts pulled into the gripping narrative are well-thought-out and beautiful, in an eerie way."

"If you can let go of semantics and get involved in a story you dont control directly, then there may be something for you. Its a moving story told through gorgeous graphics, excellent voice acting, and a transcendent musical score that pleasures your ears during poignant moments. And yes, you basically just walk around much in the same way you can boil many games to just doing any number of repetitive actions. Give this a try. You may fall in love."
