Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review | PixelPerfectGaming

Unlike the previous game, Gunslinger returns the series to its lawless Wild West roots when Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett were outlaws. The game follows the same premise as the original Call of Juarez and Bound in Blood by serving up large doses of action and plenty of one-on-one duels.
Dueling happens to be the best part of Gunslinger. Allowing the player to face off against some of historys most notorious outlaws is a real rush. Duels are essentially boss battles that occur at the end of each chapter (stage). There is more to dueling than just shooting your opponent. You have to constantly watch your opponents body language as well as his dueling hand. You also have to keep track of a Focus Gauge and control the speed of your own dueling hand as well. The logistics involved are staggering, especially if you want to survive.

Techland and Ubisoft have once again teamed up for a Call of Juarez game. While the first two games were set in a true old school Western setting, Call of Juarez The Cartel was a modern day interpretation that didnt really work as well as the original two entries into the series.

Jed Pressgrove from Fate of the Game says: "This game is a good bargain at $15 if you want cool western gameplay. Ones expectations must be in check, though. This is a B-game that walks to its own drum without being overly original. The narrative does get on my nerves, but it also has a few surprises that set up funny and/or hectic situations in the game. If the incredible Wild Guns on the SNES had been 3D, it would have felt kind of like Call of Juarez: Gunslinger."

Console Monster writes:
'The 'Western' is a strange genre. It has played host to some of the best games in history and yet, much like its cinematic counterpart, it could never claim to be a prolific genre for any medium. However when it comes to the Wild West, few periods can rival the legends seen by post Civil War America and it is here that the latest instalment in the Call of Juarez series finds itself sitting very comfortably.'

Polish developer Techland had built on the success of their western-style shooter Call Of Juarez with a well received 2009 prequel Bound In Blood, but got seriously knocked off their horse with an ill-advised jaunt into the present day, The Cartel. Will this new download-only title get them back in the saddle?
