Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition Review | Power Up Gaming
Added: 03.09.2015 4:18 | 19 views | 0 comments
Jamaal Ryan writes: "It used to be a running joke back in the late 80s and early 90s that video game box art had little to do with the actual games content. Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Golden Axe to name but a few presented a level of emotion, mischief, and heroics in their box art that didnt fully translate into actual gameplay and emergent story telling. The box art for Helldivers: Super-Earth Ultimate Edition, however, tells a more reflective narrative: four Helldivers, completely surrounded by jagged and fearsome giant insects, are hopelessly overwhelmed proving their desperate defensive attempts futile. This is every bit the experience that Helldivers delivers."

| Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Review {Critically Sane}

Critically Sane: "Nearly a decade since its release, some of the shine has worn off. In fact it is easy, and somewhat en vogue, to be dismissive of Microsofts second big shooter franchise. After all, it was in many ways patient zero for what many came to think of as what was wrong with game development during the last generation. Dull color palette? Check. Big, bruising meathead soldiers? Check. Clearly-staged cover-based shooting arenas? Check. Its all there and, while not the originator of any of those features, Gears of War was the most high profile and successful game to utilize them all so liberally. But dismissing Gears of War is ignoring the fact that it was massively popular, spawned three sequels, and inspired countless copycats of varying quality. Critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted, Spec Ops: The Line, and even Mass Effect 2 owe much to Gears of Wars design. Gears laid a groundwork that defined a generation."

| Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
"Thinking back, it is almost hard to believe that the original Gears of War was released nearly a decade ago. The title brought new life to the third-person shooter genre by taking separate elements that werent precisely new and combining them into such a tight enjoyable package that numerous titles have tried to replicate that same level of success only for numerous inadequate and easily forgettable titles to ruin the concept. Now it comes down to Gears of War: Ultimate Edition to bring back the action everyones hoping for with a fresh coat of paint. The question is, has the title managed to age well enough to still be enjoyable in 2015?"

NZG:
Since the launch of the eighth-generation consoles in 2013, there have been a handful of games that received the remastered treatment. While I personally dont mind this trend of developers and publishers reintroducing games to the current-gen audience, there have been some lacklustre efforts at making their game next-gen worthy: Sleeping Dogs was an example of a game that didnt do much other than a (minor) graphics upgrade, leading people to think the publisher was more cashing-in, rather than paying fan-service.

Metro:
With a sequel due next year first person hit Dishonored comes to Xbox One and PS4 for the first time, but what, if anything, has changed?
The phrase Game of the Year Edition is a great marketing term. Not only does it suggest a high value package, while being as non-specific as possible about the contents, but it almost sounds like an officially-authorised title something bestowed upon it by some external judge of quality. But it is of course nothing of the sort. The term is as malleable and meaningless as a publisher wants it to be, just like Ultimate Edition and Definitive Edition. But then Dishonored: Imperceptibly Better Edition probably wouldnt sell as much.

Microsofts Xbox One remaster of Xbox 360 title Gears of War shoots straight to No.1 this week in the All Formats Top 40.
The Xbox One-exclusive is the highest charting title of a number of new releases. Sonys PS4-exclusive survival horror title Until Dawn debuts in second play ahead of Disneys toys-to-life title Disney Infinity 3.0.
The latter sold best on Xbox 360, indicating that there's still a sizeable kids and family market yet to upgrade to the new consoles.
Meanwhile EAs American Football title Madden NFL 16 launched in fourth place, and in seventh place, Bethesdas remaster of 2012s Dishonored debuts.
