News: Working on PS4 is like having an unlimited memory budget, says Watch Dogs dev

Added: 21.03.2014 10:54 | 0 views | 0 comments

"It's a really nice piece of hardware."

"PS4 has really given us the platform to build a new type of game," said Graham. "It gave us a chance to dream. From an animation point of view we're always running out of memory, especially when you start developing towards the end of a console generation, so PS4 allowed things like reduced animation compression and more variety in civilians."

He added: "From my point of view it's a bit like working with an unlimited budget because we can't fill the memory budget on PS4. It's a really nice piece of hardware."

Added: 21.03.2014 7:09 | 0 views | 0 comments

But PS4 still on top overall, industry mag claims.

The console is reported to have benefited from PlayStation 4's hardware shortages and Microsoft's official £30 price cut, which came into effect three weeks ago. The launch of Titanfall has helped as well, with Xbox One sales rising 96 per cent during the game's launch week.

However, despite Microsoft's recent sales success, PlayStation 4 allegedly remains the overall best-selling console, with new supply boosting last week's hardware sales by 72 per cent.

MCV states that further PS4 stock will be available this weekend to coincide with the launch of InFamous: Second...

News: DirectX 12 is coming to Xbox One, but Microsoft isn't clear what advantage it will bring

Added: 21.03.2014 6:56 | 0 views | 0 comments

Turn 10 converted Forza 5 to DX12, but no plans to bring the game or others to PC.

Matt Sandy, program manager on the Direct3D team wrote a blog explaining what DX12 hopes to deliver.

"First and foremost, it provides a lower level of hardware abstraction than ever before, allowing games to significantly improve multithread scaling and CPU utilization," he explained. "In addition, games will benefit from reduced GPU overhead via features such as descriptor tables and concise pipeline state objects.  And that’s not all – Direct3D 12 also introduces a set of new rendering pipeline features that will dramatically improve the efficiency of algorithms such as...

Demand continues to outstrip supply.

"We're struggling to keep up with demand," House said during an interview at GDC. "Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we'll be closer to a full supply situation."

Despite experiencing on-going supply problems, Sony has still managed to sell over 6 million PS4 units, while Microsoft hasn't updated its 3 million Xbox One figure from January. Microsoft told WSJ that an update will be given with its quarterly results.

Added: 20.03.2014 12:30 | 1 views | 0 comments

Earlier response likely the last word on the matter, Namco Bandai says.

Namco's response follows further contact from VideoGamer this week asking why the publisher continued to promote Dark Souls 2 using footage that didn't accurately represent the final console version up until 6 weeks before release, and whether it was aware that the final version would look noticeably different to the "gameplay" footage released prior to launch.

We had previously asked Namco why Dark Souls 2's lighting, texture work and geometry had been altered so significantly between the pre-release version and final console build, whether Dark Souls 2's pre-release footage was...
