Released this past March in Japan as a Vita exclusive, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth will be coming to North America and Europe in 2016 for both Vita and PS4. The Vita version will be digital only, because no one has a Vita and making physical games for it is seen as a huge risk. The PS4 version will be physical and digital.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ties up all the loose story threads of the Metal Gear Solid saga. Some in very surprising ways, and others that truly felt like they were planned since the very beginning with Metal Gear Solid itself. MGS4 manages transform series villains like Big Boss, Ocelot, and even Liquid from terrorists into tragic heroes who spent half a century fighting for the freedom of mankind.
Microsoft has just announced that it will be bringing an Xbox One 1TB FIFA 16 Bundle to North America this September. This comes as a surprise, not only because FIFA bundles are typically reserved for Europe, but the announcement arrives on the heels of a similar Madden NFL 16 Bundle reveal. Sports fans have a serious decision to make.
Square Enix is giving Japan a hot ending to the gaming summer with Dragon Quest VIII PS2-to-3DS port. Here are some screenshots of the new version, which releases Aug. 27 in its homeland.

It's a week of holidays known as "Obon" in Japan. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were days off for a lot of people, especially those not in service industries like gas stations and restaurants; those guys were a whole lot more busy instead of less busy. Today and tomorrow will be likewise, as people head back home to their usual commitments.
What do you get when you combine the acting style of Andy Serkis and the flawless voice of Anna Torv? You get a damn fine video game. Heavenly Sword is a great standalone PlayStation exclusive that features a female character who fights to defend her people, despite the fact that they believe she is a walking bad luck charm. Ninja Theory did a great job with the story and turned Nariko into a classic hero by transforming a common story theme into an incredible video game experience.
Can't wait for the FFVII remake? Well, this might help stave off the hunger (...or just whet your appetite for more).
Developer PD Design Studio in Singapore has recreated the opening level of FFVII into a sword-slashing, fist-cracking side-scrolling beat-'em-up aptly named FFVII: Re-Imagined. It's a fan project that won't be seeking profit in any way, which will hopefully prevent Square Enix from sending those cease-and-desist letters.
Later tonight Nintendo plans to add another ranked mode to Splatoon called Rainmaker. It essentially acts as a capture the flag mode in which players must find the rainmaker and carry it to the other team's base. I'm sure the mode will be fun, but even more important is what it represents: Nintendo's ongoing effort to support Splatoon and in turn its player base.
The PlayStation Experience is returning once more and is moving away from its Las Vegas venue, where the event admittedly experienced some first-time jitters (that Wikipedia page is, err, short), and changing to San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center. If that sounds familiar, that's because it's the same venue as the Game Developers Conference every year. How convenient for us press peoples!
Twitch Plays PokeĂłmon was a phenomenon. It didn't seem possible, but somehow thousands of Twitch users inputting commands into chat worked. After 16 days of continuous play, the Twitch community completed the game. The social experiment was a success.
With eSports on the rise, the market for premium gaming keyboards has grown substantially. While only a couple years ago shelves were dominated by only a small handful of options, today nearly every major peripheral manufacturer has several keyboards in its lineup. It's become more difficult than ever to tell them apart as this heated competition has resulted in increasingly refined products.
This duet is pretty to listen to, frustrating to play.
Duet is the port of a 2013 mobile title where you control two dots, one red, one blue, on the opposite sides of a circle. You can rotate them around the circle left or right, and have to avoid either of them hitting a series of falling white blocks. If one of your dots hits a white block, it splatters it with the color and you have to restart from the beginning of the level. Apart from that, at the beginning of each level platitudes about the five appear. That's about as simple as I describe Duet.
Arguably the biggest gaming deal this Summer was Best Buy's Xbox One and Samsung 40" HDTV for $499. Given the Xbox One's value of $350, and the HDTV's MSRP of $430, it was a Black Friday magnitude deal that thousands would impulsively take advantage of.
Koei Tecmo is gearing up to release PS3 and PS4's Arslan: The Warriors of Legend in October of this year in Japan. Then, in 2016, it'll be coming to North America and Europe as well. Internationally, it'll also come to Xbox One.
Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a wicked-fun game that keeps getting wickeder and fun...ner (damn it). Japan just got a free DLC pack that lets the Persona 4 characters dress as the familiar faces from the first three Persona RPGs. Check 'em out:
It's fairly well known that those who work for major gaming companies, be it Sony, Nintendo, etc. must adhere to fairly strict rules when it comes to voicing their opinions or speaking about their employer in a public setting. This proves doubly true for most Japanese companies, especially Nintendo.
Legendary film director and producer Guillermo del Toro has said he'll never again work on a video game, going so far as to label himself "the albatross of video games."
"I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami," he told Shacknews. "I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone elseÄ‚Ë€â„Ës life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, IÄ‚Ë€â„Ëll join someone and his house will explode, or something."
Beating Spelunky is a tall task. Beating Spelunky with the true ending is even harder. Beating Spelunky with the true ending in under four minutes seems unfathomable, but it's been done.
