While the torrent of negative headlines may lead you to believe all is not well at Konami, the Metal Gear Solid publisher is still somehow raking in copious amounts of cash.
Believe it or not, this past quarter (which ended on June 30) Konami pulled in a whopping yen;51.2 billion in revenue. For those keeping track, that's up 5.3 percent from last year's figure of yen;48.6 billion. Even more impressive were its yen;4.28 billion in profits, which made for a staggering 159.9 percent increase.
Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that those who pick up Fallout 4 when it launches later this year will be able to continuing playing the game long after the main story concludes. Not only that, but there won't be a level cap imposed on upon players either.
We have questions on this upcoming Time magazine cover of Oculus Rift invnetor Palmer Luckey that need answering:
- What the hell is that cord connected to?
- Why is he not holding a controller?
- Why is he jumping in the first place?
- What is up with those feet?
- Who the hell thought it was a good idea to dress him in the same colors as the background?
- Why is virtual reality only changing the world now?
In time with Gamescom, the co-operative shooter Battleborn for new-gen consoles has received a worldwide release date of February 9, 2016 by 2K and Gearbox Software.
Not only does this come with a new trailer (posted above), but four new heroes out of the 25-character roster have also joined the fray as well and are available for play at Gamescom.
**Spoilers** This review assumes youÄ‚Ë€â„Ëve played episodes 1-3.
The previous chapter of Life Is Strange, subtitled , had the biggest plot twist the series had seen. By the end, time-rewind gal Max focused on an old Polaroid picture and her ability sent herself further than she ever had. Up until this point, her powers could only go back a few minutes at most, forcing Max to make the right call for a specific moment. Traveling back years, Max went to when her best friend ChloeÄ‚Ë€â„Ës dad disappeared from their lives forever. Max fixed that outcome, making sure tragedy didnÄ‚Ë€â„Ët strike. Satisfied that sheÄ‚Ë€â„Ëd changed things for the better, Max jumped back to the present when ChloeÄ‚Ë€â„Ës dad was back, but instead this altered reality leaving her best friend paralyzed from the neck down. Oops.
If Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is to be believed, then the next main entry in the JRPG franchise will finally come out in 2016. I'm sure many fans will rejoice at the news, but it's been a long road for the game once known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In the nine years since the game's initial reveal, my interest in the entire franchise has waned considerably. At this point, I don't think I care about Final Fantasy XV.
Galak-Z: The Dimensional draws inspiration from two main sources: classic arcade shooters and old Japanese animeĂł. The marriage of sci-fi action and campy dialogue works well for Galak-Z, as the playful mission banter compliments the tough-as-nails difficulty well. Failing missions repeatedly doesn't feel as devastating when you have the charismatic protagonist and his trusty commander to help alleviate the tension. Make no mistake, Galak-Z is an exercise in the "practice makes perfect" gameplay philosophy, but it manages to remain fresh and fun in the face of constant player death and failure.
When Blizzard announced that it would reveal its next expansion for World of Warcraft at Gamescom only nine months after the release of Warlords of Draenor many could tell that something just wasn't right. This is a game that has always had expansion reveals at BlizzCon in November, allowing each chapter of the game to live out a reasonable amount of time before sharing what's next. Not this time.
Blizzard has just announced its sixth expansion for World of Warcraft. It's called World of Warcraft: Legion, and it's turning away from many of the conventions of Warlords of Draenor.
Welcome to Console Wars, GameRevolution's fanboy-friendly video series all about pitting our favorite hardware makers against one another. For August, we decided to mix things up a bit and go old school. Yup, this week we're pitting the one and only Nintendo 64 against the original PlayStation.
I don't play a lot of top-down arcade shooters, so games like Galak-Z: The Dimensional aren't exactly in my wheelhouse. Now factor in Galak-Z's inherent difficulty and you have a game in which I die a whole lot. But I brush myself off with each death and keep plugging away, because Galak-Z is a ton of fun to play.
Let's be honest, 2015 has been quite a rough year for Final Fantasy fans. Sure, we did get that incredible announcement for Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3, but who know when that game will ever see the light of day. Heck, we'll be lucky if we see even a sliver of gameplay footage in 2017.
Riot, in an effort to provide information to its fans about its direction for League of Legends, posted a lengthy post on its new "Riot, pls" blog. Among the issues they raise is Sandbox Mode, detailing the reasons they've decided to reject this highly-requested feature, despite the fact that some skills require about five minutes of cooldown just to practice:
WeÄ‚Ë€â„Ëve heard a number of player requests for a Sandbox Mode, with two main reasons: the first is trying out new content - which is something we value too. We want players to know what theyÄ‚Ë€â„Ëre getting and to be happy with the things theyÄ‚Ë€â„Ëre unlocking (we may investigate other ways to do this). The second is that players want to practice very specific skills without the constraints of a regular game. For this point, our stance is that sandbox mode is not the way to go. [Add Paragraph]
Game Informer has uncovered that the E3 graphic, supposedly comprised of the 100+ games that will be supported with the Xbox's upcoming backwards compatibility when it launches, is slightly deceptive.
The Kickstarter campaign for Keiji Inafune's Mighty No. 9 was wildly successful, and it looked like it was finally going to result in a released game this year. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case.
I recently spent some hands-on time with Dark Souls III and came away impressed with the fast-paced combat. But at the same time, I felt a sense of deĂłjagrave; vu as I journeyed past crumbling walls and fought a series of deadly enemies. The third main entry in the Dark Souls series is actually the fifth Souls game if you count Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. I still had a lot of fun with the Dark Souls III demo, but I'm starting to wonder when the "more Souls" ideology will begin to wear thin.
This week Microsoft revealed new details for Crackdown 3 after more than a year of silence. The big story is its multiplayer where virtually every structure in the game world can be dismantled thanks to a meticulously designed physics engine. These destructible environments are such a large highlight of the game that Crackdown 3's entire presentation at Gamescom was focused on it.
2K Games started off today with one of its biggest announcements of the year, the confirmation of a new title in the Mafia series. Titled Mafia 3, it's a sizable departure from what fans have become accustomed to with an all-new setting, theme, and protagonist being introduced.
FromSoftware showed Dark Souls III behind closed doors at E3 back in June, but that was just a presentation. Watching a Souls game and playing a Souls game are two very different experiences, and I recently had a chance to play the E3 demo. Much of what was covered in our E3 preview holds true of the playable build I spent time with, but actually having the controller in my hands allowed me to gain a feel for the game and how it represents a natural progression for the series.
