To say that I'm a Metal Gear fan would be an understatement. I'm a grown adult with Metal Gear art on my wall. I've beaten every game in the series at least three times. Heck, my friends call me Big Boss due to my manic interest in the franchise. You might just find me stealthing around cosplaying as Big Boss with Vietnam-era camo and equipment.
As with many other gamers, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a game that I considered my most anticipated for nearly half a decade. But just 10 days after release I'm already burned out of the game, and can't say that I will remember it in a positive light. This isn't an uncommon theme with post-release talk. Many Metal Gear fans are disappointed, and it's only becoming worse with time. Let's go over why. A Forgettable Story
Prior to MGSV's release, I took for granted how much I admire Hideo Kojima's storytelling, even with all its insanity (i.e. nanomachines and "the arm"). Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was certainly full of lengthy cutscenes, many of which were almost unbearably long. However, at the end of the game I felt as though I had been through an epic narrative. There were so many great moments that are impossible to forget, including the microwave hall and return to Shadow Moses. The truth is that while Metal Gear has always been long-winded, it's also been clever. That's extended beyond story elements to character design, with plenty of noteworthy antagonists encountered along the multi-decade journey.
Just like Braid that came before it, Jonathan Blow's The Witness has required a great length of development time and care. With work started in late 2008, its release has become elusive with time transpired. But it will not succumb to a vaporware destiny. Instead, it will make a splash early next year.
On January 26th, 2016, The Witness will become available on both PS4 and PC. Both versions are expected to contain the same content, which is said by Blow to be 8 to 12 hours in length with plenty of headroom for side exploration.
The fine folks over at Square Enix fail to disappoint at this year's Tokyo Game Show, delivering the exciting announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts compilation, as well as a few glorious new trailers that will have Final Fantasy fans salivating all over themselves in anticipation.
I've already spent 70+ hours with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and that number will likely increase as I plan to at least check out Metal Gear Online. The additional multiplayer suite comes out next month on consoles, and some new details have been revealed.
As I note in my review, NHL 16 represents a return to form for the popular EA Sports series. One of its greatest strengths is the on-ice gameplay, so I lace up my skates and participate in some regular matches in this episode of Challenge Accepted... on superstar difficulty. NHL 16 may be a great game, but that doesn't mean I'm great at it. Superstar difficulty drives that point home.
Hey that game you're playing, did it ah...
What I mean is, when you rotated the camera just now, did the frame rate take a little dip?
Why yes, yes, I do believe it did. If you're playing 3D game at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show, you may have noticed something when you rotated the camera. It slowed down. Dropping frames isn't a new thing. Pfft, no. But at this year's TGS, you'll notice just a liiiiittle dip during almost every game at the exact same place: rotating the camera.
If you were holding out a sliver of naive, optimistic hope that Persona 5 would be releasing before 2015 comes to a close, I hate to break it to you, but Atlus isn't going to be able to deliver on that promise.
The YouTube Live center is located right next door to the LA office for Konami. Just a few weeks back, journalists got to play the entire campaign of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain over a four-day period. Activision only offered three hours to demo Guitar Hero Live, but it was enough time for me to realize that IÄ‚Ë€â„Ëm officially excited to play the final retail version next monthhellip; and that I might need a four-day weekend to not suck at it.
This year, Super Mario Bros. celebrates 30 years of turtle shells, green pipes, and all those princesses who are , while comparatively new, is another.
Of course, Castle Crashers Remastered is the spirit of Streets of Rage or Golden Axe. This isnÄ‚Ë€â„Ët a platformer, after all. YouÄ‚Ë€â„Ëre out to kill pretty much everything as opposed to jumping everywhere. It's a beat-Ä‚Ë€ÂÂem-up through and through.
Clowns donÄ‚Ë€â„Ët frighten me, nor do I actively dislike them, but I wonÄ‚Ë€â„Ët pretend that I donÄ‚Ë€â„Ët understand how they can seriously freak people out. Their overdrawn smiles, loud noises, and bright clothing read as "fear-inducing interloper" to many. So enters Dropsy, a game centered on an unavoidably creepy clown... who bears a heart of gold. Despite not being a living nightmare, he is living through one, and his experience renders him genuine versus the ambiguous saccharine sweetness of performers at a party or a circus. DropsyÄ‚Ë€â„Ës penchant for love and forgiveness in a cruel world is among the reasons his adventure game is one of the best in the genre.
Telltale makes great adventure games and Minecraft is a hugely popular franchise, so Minecraft: Story Mode isn't the most surprising game despite the source material. Now the upcoming episodic adventure has a release date, and the first episode comes out soon.
[Update] Congratulations to our winners! Your codes for Caste Crashers Remastered is in your private GR inbox. I still have a few extra codes in the bag for the entries below that aren't valid or don't have GR account and I'll hold them so long as we don't receive any more valid entries moving forward. If I don't get a valid entry by tomorrow, I'll just distribute the remaining codes to the existing winners to double up.
Normally, I'd offer a download link, but the hotel's internet is super dumb and won't allow connections like that... or something, is what the guy said. Anyway, we discuss Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 6, Jack the Ripper I guess showing up in some game I don't care about, World of Final Fantasy (sort of), SaGa (but not really), and TGS in general. Also it was windy. Imagine you were there!

Tokyo Game Show 2015 Highlights

12 months from now you'll probably be playing The Last Guardian. Until then, the long, agonizing wait for its arrival continues. For those who happen to be at Tokyo Game Show this week, The Last Guardian can be experienced ahead of release. Though, its appearance isn't traditional by any means.
As a 13 year veteran of Counter-Strike, today is a day I won't soon forget. Valve has just released its latest update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and it's nothing short of amazing. It goes well beyond introducing simple improvements by making the game play, look, and feel a lot better.
Perception
[Update - 9/16/2015] This week, Vault-Tec has moved on from Strength to focus on the second letter of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. acronym, providing a handy video tutorial on Perception.
Think back to the PS2 era, coming home and playing Kingdom Hearts II for the first time. If your KH2 baptism was the PS3 remaster, then you'll have to use your imagination — and since we're discussing a partial Disney property, that's par for the course, right?
It's no secret that Nintendo is currently in a major state of transition. Wii U hasn't been flying off store shelves and 3DS is undoubtedly nearing the end of its life. Smart devices are taking over the mobile landscape, and the hardware market is changing at an increasingly rapid pace. As such, Nintendo is finally embracing mobile, while also prepping the launch of a completely new platform, codenamed NX.
So it looks like The Last of Us 2 is actually happening. Big shocker, I know. Earlier this year, Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North said as much, and during a recent livestream event for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Naughty Dog writer Josh Scherr only added fuel to the fire.
