When Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3 2015, many were under the assumption that it would be eons before it'd be playable. After all, there's been no indication that any phases of development had been completed prior to the announcement. However, there is some hope in sight for those who want to play it within a reasonable amount of time.
EA Sports, in a smart move to hawk the inclusion of female soccer teams in the series, has announced that players Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair will grace the cover of FIFA 16.
This marks the first time that women will be on a FIFA cover and one of the first times that a woman has been on the cover of a simulation sports franchise in general (at least I can't recall any at the moment).
Devil's Third, an upcoming Wii U game directed by Tomonobu Itagaki that's been in production since 2008, has received critical reactions from the press in Europe: wonky hit detection, poor frame rates, and an irritating camera.
This last week EVO ran its 14th professional fighting game tournament, EVO 2015. It was the most successful event in its history, turning out huge crowds, profound matches, and outstanding production values.
Ah, the thrill of the victory and the agony of defeat. And sometimes both.
In an EVO moment that will be remembered for many years to come (out of many at this year's EVO), noted Guilty Gear pro player Woshige made a rookie mistake by celebrating his victory before realizing that the match wasn't over. By the time he realized his blunder, he lost. His competitor Ogawa won in what played out like a match in practice mode.
Based on all of the mounting evidence, it looks like Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will be parting ways with Konami once development on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been completed. Not only have numerous reports supported this claim, but Konami just recently stripped away both the creator's name and Kojima Production logo from the cover of his upcoming game.
WB Games has announced that it will be releasing an "interim" patch for the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight in August, which promises to fix some of the many issues that currently plague this port of Rocksteady's June release.
Atlus and Vanillaware have just announced via stream from... Boston, for some reason... that they will be bringing the PS2's Odin Sphere into HD for PS3, PS4, and Vita. Called Odin Sphere Leifdrasir, it's neither a sequel nor a simple HD remaster, but a kind of re-imagining of the original.
These are not direct feed screenshots, but captures from the stream:

The mah-fuggin' deal:
New combat abilities
Maybe even new combat system?
We're exploring areas vertically now
My girl Gwendolyn
New way to mix potions, it looks like
Here's the video. He spells the name with a 't' but the logo has a 'd' as in "dawg," dawg. It's Leifdrasir, not Leiftrasir. I am right. Oh, yeah, that video:
Skip to about 2:35 to see when the trailer begins.
Being upgraded from PS2, I hope some of those boss battles will be free of the crippling slowdown that showed up.
The game comes out Jan. 14 of 2016 and the price is set for 7980 yen (about $64 USD...though that amount was like $85 USD a year ago. Oh, exchange rate, you fickle beast). The original game is available on the PS2 Classic line of the PSN Store.

Capcom showed new Street Fighter character Necalli to the world at EVO 2015. Set to make his debut in the PS4 and PC's Street Fighter V, you can check out that reveal trailer above and screenshot collection below.
AMD has released its Q2 financial reports today, and the numbers aren't good. The company has continued to struggle as numbers have fallen short of projections. Investors aren't happy, but Microsoft might be.
What sets Persona 4: Dancing All Night apart in the world of rhythm games is the feel of dancing. I don't know the secret, but Atlus somehow made P4D so that I feel like I'm really participating. Hatsune Miku and some other rhythm titles also have dancing characters bopping around while players jam away with rhythmic taps, but none of them made me feel like I was right in there experiencing the action. Watching Yosuke drop his sweet moves while my fingers move about the buttons and my head bobs with the beat creates more satisfying gameplay than I've found in any music game in the last several years.
That's Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book up there, Gust's next RPG for the PS3, PS4, and Vita. We have a few screenshots below.

It comes out Sept. 25 in Japan, though outside releases haven't yet been confirmed.
You guys, lens flare.
I've spent these last 32 days convinced Shenmue 3 was on the one-way track to Shitsville, until I saw the light... ning bugs. And that trailer full of them. About Shenmue 3. Now, I worry not.
Did you see it? Some of those flashes are lightning bugs (also called "fireflies,"), and the haze and weird hexagons are lens flare. It's a defect that shows up in movies and photos because of how light rays get all weird when they enter directly into a camera's lens.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's v1.07 patch is a significant one for both current-generation consoles. Weighing in at 7GB, it attacks a wide array of issues that weren't dealt with in previous patches. Unfortunately, it also has a negative side effect.
Ever played Taiko Drum Master? It's this:
(Not my video.)
There's a Vita Version now, and since Japan loves to name software after the hardware it appears on, it's called Taiko Drum Master: V Version. There's sadly no real drumming involved, but I can't say I'm surprised. I don't want to take twin touch pens and go smacking them against my Vita over and over again. I'd be afraid of breaking it or throwing off its calibration.
Eleven isn't just my lucky number, it's my favorite number. As such, I've reserved this particular episode for one of my all-time favorite BAMF BABES, Ellie from The Last of Us. When Naughty Dog introduced us to this young, foul-mouthed survivalist, it took the gaming world by storm and set a standard for incorporating cinematic storytelling within games.
**WARNING! SPOILERS FOR THE LAST OF US AND LEFT BEHIND DLC**

Sony is celebrating the PlayStation brand this weekend with a four day long event that reduces the price of several dozen games on the PlayStation Store. This isn't the first time Sony has run a Flash Sale, and certainly won't be the last given its success.
The Evolution Championship Series, or EVO for short, takes place every year in Las Vegas as players compete in a variety of fighting games. EVO 2015 officially started today, which means fans will get to watch tournaments in Ultra Street Fighter IV, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Mortal Kombat X, and others. The full lineup includes:
Ultra Street Fighter 4
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Guilty Gear Xrd Sign
Killer Instinct
Mortal Kombat X
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Tekken 7
Preliminary matches take place today, but the competition heats up over the weekend. I found that out last year when I watched EVO for the first time and found myself enjoying it despite my general ignorance when it comes to fighting games. I played Street Fighter II when I was a kid and I've enjoyed the last two Mortal Kombat games, but that's about it.
NPD Group has debuted its software chart for June 2015, and all three console manufacturers have followed suit with statements regarding how well their hardware performed. Among the big stories is Sony's success with top console sales in North America for the second month in a row.
Let's just get right to this:

It's fun as hell, too. I'll have a "preview" (psst, that's a review that I don't put a score on) in the not too distant future.
