Nintendo's Amiibo line of products have been a best-selling product since their introduction last Summer. Following its introduction of a select few options, fans began requesting their favorite characters, with Pokemon's Mewtwo commonly making the top of wish lists. It was only a matter of time before Nintendo fulfilled the request.
The multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III will begin on August 19 for those on PlayStation 4.
Developer Treyarch confirmed the news in a post on Twitter, promising to reveal formation sometime in the near future. Seeing as how August 19 is just a little over a month away, it looks like PS4 owners don't have long to wait!
Back at E3, Activision announced that it would be partnering with Sony to bring DLC first to PlayStation platforms, so news of an early beta for PS4 owners is surely no surprise.
A brand-new map for Halo 5: Guardians Warzone multiplayer mode has just been unveiled by Microsoft and developer 343 Industries this morning at San Diego Comic-Con.
It's called Raid on Apex 7 and now stands as the series' largest map ever. Better yet, this new multiplayer map serves as a spiritual successor to Silent Cartographer, one of the most beloved levels of the original Halo: Combat Evolved.
FTL: Faster Than Light was one of favorite games of 2012 even though I only played it for a short while. Imagine being the captain of a large spaceship - that pretty much sums up the FTL experience. That doesn't fully express its difficulty though, and FTL is a hard game.
"In the future, all races take place in neon worlds."
Spectra isn't a music/rhythm game, and yet it bears a close resemblance to familiar titles like . The neon lights and pulsating soundtrack immediately come to mind, but even the subtle movements from one side of the track to the other instill a sense of deĂłjagrave; vu. Spectra belongs to the racing genre more so than anything else, because it allows a stronger sense of freedom in track navigation, but it doesn't have enough freedom. The game rests somewhere in between the worlds of Amplitude and arcade racers, and its emphasis on simplicity and brevity only makes the disconnect that much more jarring.
Right in line with San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Disney will be giving fans the opportunity to play as Hulkbuster and Ultron for the first time in the Toy Box mode in Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition.
Capcom will be bolstering its E3 showing at Comic-Con (Booth #215) with hands-on time available to fans for Street Fighter V, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Resident Evil 0, DMC4 Special Edition, Resident Evil Revelations 2, and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Sony launched the PlayStation Now app on PlayStation 4 at the beginning of the year, and the company continues to add new games every month. This month includes more than just games though - it comes with an entirely new look.
MOBA games have made a huge impact on the PC game market, but now titles like SMITE are looking to console audiences as well. The game had a closed beta period back in May on Xbox One, and now it enters open beta on the console starting today.
The MMO genre has evolved dramatically over the past decade. Many developers have learned that there isn't much room for subscription-based games, while others have found out the hard way that successful post-launch content is necessary to retain players.
Related: Final Fantasy XIV is Much More Popular Than You May Think
With the announcement that Final Fantasy XIV is the second most popular subscription-based MMO on the market, I thought it'd be interesting to look at what games currently reign supreme in the space. Reducing the list down to the top 10 most popular games I found that the most popular MMOs all have distinct themes and gameplay styles.
One of the best releases of 2014 was The Talos Principle, a mind-bending puzzle game from the creators of the Serious Sam franchise. Now the game is getting even more content in the form of Road to Gehenna, which now has a release date.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer believes the industry would benefit if more high-ranking industry execs would actually play video games.
In a post on Twitter, Spencer shared his thoughts, highlighting PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida as a shining example.
The Xbox boss is a self-proclaimed gamer and his Xbox Live Gamerscore is evidence to that claim. Do you agree with his sentiment that more decision making execs in the industry should dedicate time to playing games?
Square Enix is taking the obstacle course experience to a new level at San-Diego Comic-Con this year and placing it all within a self-described "outdoor beer garden." Nothing like a little bit of liquid courage, right?
Activision has announced Skylanders SuperChargers Dark Edition and will be showcasing this shadowy SKU at San Diego Comic-Con 2015.

The standard Starter Pack on other consoles includes Dark Spitfire, Dark Hot Streak, a Kaos Trophy to unlock Kaos gameplay content, and a double-sided collector poster.
I played through Journey multiple times on PlayStation 3, but that isn't going to stop me from doing it all over again on PlayStation 4. It won't be a long wait, as a July release date has been announced for the PS4 port of Journey.
Comic-Con may have comic in the title, but video games also have a large presence at the annual convention. That includes Microsoft, and the company announced its plans for SDCC 2015.

With all this talk about Shenmue 3, have you wondered what all the fuss is about? Janelle's been playing the original for the first time. Meanwhile, Heath, who finished that game well over a decade ago, has been watching and reminiscing.
There's no doubt that the video game industry is changing at an increasingly rapid rate, and there's a good chance both virtual and augmented reality will play a major role in shaping what the medium ultimately evolves into.
