One of the more surprising aspects of XCOM 2's announcement this week was the fact that the upcoming sequel will be a PC exclusive. Now developer Firaxis is explaining the decision to forgo consoles this time around.
Ah, June. The month where gaming journalists all over the internet both anticipate the wonders of E3 and simultaneously bemoan all of the games that are curiously releasing right after E3. Not to say that I should complain. Things could be worse, of course.
Whether you're a PC or console gamer, you have reason to be excited today if you're still busy with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt like we are.
While consoles have received the v1.04 patch today, PC has had v1.05 deployed. Both are sizable patches, with the PC one in particular weighing in at over 240 megabytes. In the process, several known bugs have been addressed, and even gameplay has been improved.
Today, after years in development, Heroes of the Storm has officially released. It's the first new Blizzard game to arrive since 2012's Diablo 3, and it's not only a great game but one that brings a completely new angle to the action RTS space.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Blizzard has generously supplied us with 500 Heroes of the Storm codes to give away. These codes will unlock not only support character Malfurion, but his Storm Mantle skin, a skin that makes the character look much cooler. Since I'm a Malfurion fan, I bought the skin during Closed Beta and can attest to its magnificence.
Bethesda has announced that, for the very first time, its E3 booth will not be closed off to the general public (and not be a giant box in the middle of the show floor) and has a schedule of panels already slated on its Live Stage Show.
Along with presenting its very first press conference on Sunday, June 14, Bethesda is taking bold steps in reaching out to its audience this year. I, for one, welcome this change. Bethesda's E3 booth will be in South Hall, Booth 623, at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 16-18.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a gorgeous looking game. No doubt about it. Lucky for you we've got a fresh batch of screenshots to share with you, a few of which showcase Snake's sidekick, Diamond Dog.
Inside, the next title from indie developer Playdead has been delayed outside its early 2015 launch window. Apparently, the studio that brought you Limbo still needs a bit more time polishing the atmospheric Xbox One platformer.
A new Star Wars game was announced today, an iOS/Android RPG from mobile game developer Kabam. The reveal trailer for Star Wars: Uprising can be viewed above.
The trailer doesn't show any gameplay, but a screenshot on the official website seems to suggest it's a top-down RPG much like a Diablo or Torchlight. In addition, players will be able to create their own special characters as they earn new skills and find equipment.
Rock Band 4 will be a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game, which means PC is missing from the list of platforms. It's a conscious decision on Harmonix's part, and the company recently detailed the reasons behind that decision.
Valve's Steam Machines, pre-built computers designed to be the company's first foray into the console market, now have a release date: November 10.
The announcement was made this morning, and it was also revealed that the Steam Controller and Steam Link device will be released on the same day. In addition, prospective buyers can pre-order the system now to gain access to it a month early on October 16.
Heroes of the Storm is officially out, and with it are 37 playable characters derived from Blizzard's great IPs. This roster will continue to grow going into the future with plans to add a new one at an average pace of every three weeks. That begs the question: who will be added?
Final Fantasy XV won't be showcased at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Square Enix has announced.
"After internal discussions, we decided not to create an E3 trailer," studio marketing manager Akio Ofuj said during today's livetsream (via GameSpot). "Sorry for lying." The game's director, Hajime Tabata, chimed in, adding, "It's unfortunate. We said we'd have something at E3, and there's nothing."

The Last of Us gets off to a slow start, so I wanted to do another Challenge Accepted episode with the no guns restriction to see how the difficulty ramps up. Well, let's just say I do a whole lot of punching in this particular episode. If not the general decay of civilization in the world of The Last of Us, I feel like Joel would be a great boxer.
[Update] Sony and Naughty Dog have officially unveiled the heavily-rumored Uncharted collection for PlayStation 4. You can check out the compilation's announcement trailer above.

There's not yet any release date announcement outside of Japan, but when it's still months away from domestic release, that's not uncommon. Stay tuned.
It appears a remastered collection of the first three Uncharted games is in fact in the works for PlayStation 4, thanks to an early leak on the PlayStation mobile store.
It's titled Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and (one would assume) includes all three of Nathan Drake's mainline adventures.
Today's big headline is the official announcement of Fallout 4. It was a long time coming, and it's no surprise that more than three million people have viewed the debut trailer within 12 hours.
Before we begin, let's roll that beautiful footage one more time!
Starting with the signature "Please Stand By" screen, the trailer for Fallout 4 opens on a Radiation King television set as the game's theme plays in the background, which by the way is "It's All Over But The Crying" sung by The Ink Spots, whose rendition of "I Don't Want To Set The World on Fire" was the theme song for Fallout 3.
