Once upon a time Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima was working on two of the most anticipated projects at the same time: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Silent Hills. While the former would survive the trek to release, the latter would die a painful death mid-production. Nonetheless, there are still remnants of its existence.
This unconventional game draws players like a pen is drawn to paper.
PS Vita games that are ported to the PlayStation 4 make me very skeptical. Most ports are limited by the power of Sony's handheld system, so they have to add something extra to make them worthwhile. To my surprise, Tearaway Unfolded never made me feel like I was playing a last-gen game, and the addition of mobile app features adds more depth to an already fun experience. It's just too bad that a strong focus on the whimsical presentation and unconventional gameplay comes at the cost of a challenge, of which there is none.
Nintendo knows how to make an expertly crafted Mario game. The company excels in level design and mechanical variety on a game-to-game basis, and each new entry in the series showcases the company's creativity. But what happens when Nintendo takes the tools used to make Mario games and puts them in the hands of players? It results in Super Mario Maker, a special game that emphasizes the creativity of an entire community. Best of all, it's the kind of experience that will only improve with time.
A new firmware update for PlayStation 4 owners is on the horizon, and is now available to select folks involved in the beta. Dubbed "Kenshin," Update 3.0 promises to pack a whole bunch of awesome new features Sony fans have been anticipating for quite some time.
Excited for Star Wars Battlefront? Is the anticipation for DICE's upcoming sci-fi shooter becoming a bit too difficult to bear? Fear not, for Electronic Arts has announced that players will be able to test out the action through a beta that launches across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC early next month.
When Forza Horizon 2's demo was released a year ago, nobody was expected it to be as impactful as it was. Racing fans going in were hoping for something to give them a taste of what the full experience was like, and were given much more.
The Mario games have always been big business for Nintendo, especially the pure, side-scrolling games, which always end up being a solid bankable win. It's clear the Big N is well aware of that fact, as Super Mario Maker appears primed and ready to capitalize on that love of the franchise and its mechanics, all while giving players the opportunity to make their own levels.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is here. If you have a gaming PC, you'll want to use it to harness the power of the game's best version. Below I'll go over why.
The Big Boss of MGSV Versions
When PC gamers throw down over a thousand dollars for a gaming rig, they expect to have only the best experience. That isn't always the case, but with MGSV: The Phantom Pain it certainly is.
In case you haven't already heard the news, Nintendo has finally decided to bring the smaller New 3DS model to folks in North America. Naturally, in typical Nintendo fashion, the company won't be releasing it in the most straightforward of ways, as the only way gamers in the States will be able to grab the smaller handheld will be through a special Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer bundle on September 25.
In addition, Nintendo announced another special edition version of the 3DS XL, which features a sleek Legend of Zelda Hyrule theme, just in time for the release of Tri-Force Heroes. Give the snazzy new custom gold handheld a look below.
It's hard to believe but Halo 5: Guardians is now less than two months away from release. As a massive fan of the franchise ever since Combat Evolved, I've gone through an emotional journey (well, that may be overstating it a bit) ever since Bungie departed the franchises and 343 Industries took the reigns.
Turn 10 Studios was surprised by the data it gathered on the spread of its players. After five installments of Forza Motorsport and two installments of Forza Horizon, the studio expected the bulk of its audience to be either leaderboard climbers who inched their way by millseconds or multipalyer rivals who loved the thrill of competition, mainly since racing naturally lends itself to to head-to-head contests and number-crunching precision. But what they found instead was that most Forza players focused on the more linear career campaign and wanted to claim first place in as many races as possible, setting the difficulty slightly below their ability in order to achieve the absolute highest positions. I am one such player.
In a day and age where PC ports tend to be flawed, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain appears to be the shining example of what hard work can accomplish.
In anticipation of tomorrow's release of MGSV: The Phantom Pain, Nvidia has pushed out a new 355.82 GeForce driver. The new driver features performance improvements for Konami's latest title in addition to Mad Max, which similarly releases tomorrow. The announcement post confirms Dynamic Super Resolution and SLI profile support.
Each time one of 2015's games has been delayed, 2016 has become stronger. Combine that with the announcement that multiple AAA titles including Deus Ex: Mankind Revolution will release during the first half of the year and you have yourself one of the strongest release windows in gaming history.
The fine folks at Square Enix had plenty to share with fans during its Active Time Battle Report this weekend at PAX Prime. In addition to confirming Final Fantasy XV will indeed be releasing in 2016, the Japanese publisher also shared several new glimpses at in-game footage.
I actually just finished this quite recently, playing a PSOne copy on my PS3 (but hey man, backward compatibility is stupid, right?) and it holds up. The graphics are grainy, but they were at the time, too. I remember reading PSM gushing about the visuals, and they were nice, but never did I look at the characters and freak out or anything. The environments and machines stand out as quite nice, though.
Early 2016 might already be strong, but Uncharted 4: A Thief's End wants to make it even better.
Sony has announced that the final chapter of Uncharted will release on March 18th, placing it within the same month as Tom Clancy's The Division, Killer Instinct: Season 3, and Street Fighter V.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches tomorrow for a whole host of platforms, including PC. While the vast majority of the hands-on coverage has come from the PlayStation 4 build, Konami is assuring gamers that the PC port won't disappoint, going so far as to call it "stunning."
You got some Old West in my X-COM! You got some X-COM in my- BLAM! ...death rattle.
"Have you played before?" asked Kacper Szymczak, the Lead Designer at Creative Forge Games, before I sat down to take a look at Hard West, a tactical RPG with a western setting. His question was indeed the fastest way to explain Hard West, which borrows liberally from Firaxis' exemplary sci-fi SRPG.
[Update] The folks over at Boss Key Productions have released even more fast-paced gameplay action of their upcoming game LawBreakers.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will release on February 23, 2016, developer Eidos Montreal has announced.
In a post on PlayStation Blog, not only did community manager Sacha Ramtohul reveal this exciting news, we also received our first look at the game's pre-order bonuses.
