| Tales from the Borderlands Episode 1: Zer0 Sum Review - GamerCenterOnline

GCO: "Tales from the Borderlands is a combination of everything Telltale Games have learned from previous exploitslike The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. Besides some rather out of place elements, Tales from the Borderlands is an extremely intuitive mix of narrative and player choice."

CGM:
Telltale really does deserve some kind of award for being one of the few companies that doesnt butcher an intellectual property when they turn it into a videogame. In fact, theyre one of the few companies that get what makes an IP special and manage to carry that over into the adventure games they make. Weve seen it in The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, and now, perhaps more importantly for mainstream fans that dont play adventure games, theyre continuing to nail it for Game of Thrones.

Episodic games have become common place in gaming since games like The Walking Dead popularized the format. Is "Life is Strange" another shining example of an episodic game done right?

Entertainment Buddha's Mark Steighner writes: "Point-and-click adventure games occupy a special, evergreen niche in the hobby. Just when you think the genre is dead and buried, a Sam and Max, Walking Dead or Wolf Among Us will appear and remind us that the format is viable and capable of surprises. In skilled hands, adventure games can deliver a wide range of content, from horror to fantasy to humor. Because humor and wit so often rely on verbal set-ups and punchlines, text-heavy adventure games offer an appealing laugh delivery system. The player has to read, after all, and may take the time to appreciate a well-written joke, satire, or insightful comment. Unfortunately, though, humor is subjective and mercilessly difficult to pull off well. Get it wrong and a game can lurch from promising to painful."

Eskimo Press: "Life is Strange is very similar to those other interactive graphic novel games like Wolf Among Us and the Walking Dead. The game has the same aesthetic style, feel, and very similar game-play however it just not from the same developer. For a game like this to work it needs to have a very intriguing story-line with great acting otherwise you will lose interest very quickly. And, so far, the story is some-what interesting and the voice acting is sufficient, but, oh my, the writing is face-palm worthy."
