Abrams believes game "didn't help the movie and arguably hurt it".
Hollywood director JJ Abrams was not in the least bit happy with Star Trek: The Video Game. He also believes it may actually have hurt Star Trek: Into Darkness, and doesn't care who knows it.
Prepare to re-enter Albion in February 2014.
In a blog post over on the official Lionhead Studios website, Fable Anniversary lead designer Ted Timmins has apologised to fans for the wait and announced the game's release date window, which has been delayed slightly, as February 2014.
No word on whether this version will last longer than 7 years.
Microsoft is developing a virtual assistant app akin to Apple iOS's Siri, which will run on Xbox, PC and Windows phones. The app is named Cortana, after Master Chief's AI companion in Halo.
"Conversations" have been had about Activision IP, direct work with BioWare would be "difficult".
Of all Xbox Live Arcade's early gems, Bizarre Creations' Geometry Wars is surely the most lustrous - a hyperactive rainbow blaster that can claim significant responsibility for the continuing popularity of schmups on console platforms. So, where's Xbox One's version of the same, Microsoft? And given your current chumminess with EA, is there any chance you'll partner with BioWare again to work on an exclusive RPG?
Goodness, XBLIG, have you lost weight?.
A pretty spectacular "technical glitch" has caused a large number of games to disappear from Xbox Live Marketplace, including Castle Crashers, Battleblock Theater and over a thousand Xbox Live Indie Games titles. Microsoft is, you'll be unsurprised to hear, aware of the issue, and assures us that it's a temporary one.
"We're working on projects that you know about, and others that you don't.".
A morsel of Master Chiefy intrigue to end the day on. 343's community manager Jessica Shea has revealed that the Halo studio has more on the boil than the already-announced Halo for Xbox One and Halo TV series (the latter is being produced in collaboration with Steven Spielberg). What could those other projects be? Another Spartan Assault-style spin-off? Or something a bit meatier?
Ubisoft airs those fancy next gen features.
Like a malfunctioning tennis ball launcher, Ubisoft has been firing out Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag trailers at a rate of about one every five seconds for the past two months. I'm not sure there's any part of the game we haven't seen at this point. Still, the latest video is worth watching - it reveals the extent of the gulf between the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
"We can just tap in and get dedicated servers.".
Will certain Xbox One games benefit from free access to dedicated Microsoft servers? That's what some in the media are suggesting, but we've yet to light on a concrete statement to this effect from the manufacturer. Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt has muddied the waters still further, telling OXM at Gamescom that as an Xbox One title, Forza Motorsport 5 enjoys "great advantages kind of for free".
"I apologize for any confusion my statement may have caused," says Helgason.
Unity CEO David Helgason has revealed to OXM that Unity game creation tools for OXM won't, in fact, be "widely available" to developers till 2014, though they will be made available to certain developers as part of early testing this year.
"It's the sharing of emotions, the sharing of the loneliness with other people.".
On the one hand, I'm desperate for news on From Software's Dark Souls 2. I want to hear about that bone dragon you'll stumble over in a certain hall, that miserable fat obscenity behind the prison door. I want to hear more about the new classes, the new Pyromancy spells and Miracles. I want to find out who stuck that aeroplane-sized sword through that mouldy temple.
Shadowrun not rated for release in the region.
Apologies for being a little late with this one. Microsoft has added Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts to September's free Xbox games line-up, for South African Xbox Live users only. The firm had originally planned to give away steampunk FPS Shadowrun in the region on 16th September, but the latter isn't, it seems, rated for release in South Africa.
If you can't beat them...
A fair few of you cheeky scamps have taken to calling the Xbox One "Xbone", a contraction the goodly Major Nelson feels "disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product". Well, never let it be said that Microsoft doesn't listen - as reported by Fusible, the firm has now acquired the domain name "Xbone.com".
"We did a thing where you could whistle for the dog.".
Ubisoft Montreal's Valiant Hearts: The Great War may yet get Kinect support, IP development director Adrian Lacey has told OXM. The developer is looking into adding a voice control feature, which would give you another way to interact with the dog who unites the game's five separate storylines.
"New content" promised for Tokyo Game Show floor.
Sooner or later, Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer will drunkenly Tweet something like "Hey @AvalancheSweden great work on #Crackdown3 you guys" followed by "DISREGARD LAST TWEET, PROBLEM WITH PHONE KEYBOARD #oops" and I, ladies and gentlemen, will be there, embedding that noise like there's no tomorrow. Until then, we have stuff like the below. Seems Black Tusk's urban action game for Xbox One is shaping up nicely.
Next gen GTA 5 revealed, or has somebody jumped the gun?.
Amazon.de currently has a 1080p HD edition of GTA 5 listed for release on Xbox One and PS4. This is quite the turn-up, obviously.
Landslide of details arrives care of the latest Games Informer.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is going to swallow you whole. It's going to toss you back and chug you down like a marathon runner knocking back a can of Lucozade. But friends, that's nothing to what Grand Theft Auto Online will do to you, around two weeks after the main game goes on sale. A planeload of new details on the game's multiplayer have arrived, care of the latest issue of Game Informer, as picked clean by CVG.
There's "no way" next gen animation systems will run at 60 FPS on current gen.
Just in case the revelation that it has "ten times the animation" leaves you in any doubt as to FIFA 14 Xbox One's superiority over the Xbox 360 version, here's producer Nick Channon with extended thoughts on how current gen and next gen FIFA differ. Supposedly, it would be impossible to run the higher-end game's animations and Pro Instincts features on Xbox 360 without severe compromises to the frame rate.
"And then you can layer on top of that a certain amount of stuff that you probably just won't find.".
BioWare's Mike Laidlaw has been chatting to Rock Paper Shotgun about the thorny topic of player-determined plot branches in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Seemingly, a "significant" chunk of the game's content may become inaccessible, depending on your choices, though the implementation is still being thrashed out.
"We remain true to our vision that we want to be wherever our consumers want us to be.".
Those high profile Xbox One policy reversals? Nothing to lose sleep over, according to Xbox Europe vice-president Chris Lewis. Speaking to MCV in a new interview, Lewis insists that the next generation Xbox is performing well despite the abandoning of Microsoft's original digital strategy, which would have obliged users to sign in every 24 hours in order to ascertain game ownership.
"I think it could be very interesting to talk about it in a year, and to see how far we've come.".
The Ubi Art Framework engine, originally developed for 2011's Rayman Origins and more recently used for its follow-up Rayman Legends, was the star of the show at Ubisoft's Digital Days event in Paris yesterday, with upcoming 2014 titles Child of Light and Valiant Hearts: The Great War both utilising the engine and looking for all the world like moving, playable pieces of concept art.
