Man with hammer really isn't in the mood for massive demons today.
CI Games has released the first trailer for Lords of the Fallen, its 2014-bound action-RPG for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It looks a lot like Vigil's Darksiders series, with a splash of The Witcher and Shadow of the Colossus, and absolutely none of that is bad news. Take a whiff.
Amazon offer will run till 31st December.
Buy a selected Xbox 360 game from Amazon, and you'll be able to trade it in with bonus credit towards purchasing the same game for Xbox One. The retailer's offer runs till 31st December, and currently covers eight of this year's tastier releases - Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Need for Speed: Rivals, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25 and NBA 2K14.
"We were just stretching too thin" on Battlefield 3, says DICE.
Battlefield 3's standalone co-op component was a bit of a mixture - one part smart tactical infiltration sequence to one part fatally skill-dependent helicopter madness. Battlefield 4 has accordingly shifted the focus squarely to the competitive multiplayer and campaign, as DICE considers this a more efficient use of resources. It may return to the idea in future, however.
Rockstar hasn't pulled any punches, as ERSB rating reveals.
Another way of rating Grand Theft Auto 5 for release might have been to list the contentious material that hasn't made the cut. It's a pretty short list. As spotted by Kotaku, the ERSB's rating summary for Rockstar's latest runs the gamut from the mere slaying of innocent bystanders through cocaine use to the exposed genitalia of "male cult members" in a "non-sexual context".
Out in November, represents "three to four playthroughs" worth of content.
Ready the grunts and warm up the Skyranger, Commander - 2K has whisked the wrappers off XCOM: Enemy Within, an expanded edition of last year's turn-based gem XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It's out 12 November in the US, 15th November in the UK, and you'll supposedly need to play through the game three to four times to access all the new content. Thanks, CVG.
But the indie decides how much Microsoft pays for the game.
Microsoft's ID@Xbox director Chris Charla has detailed how Xbox One's digital game pricing will work, in a quick chat with CVG. Essentially, the manufacturer determines what consumers pay for a game, but developers are free to set the wholesale price - how much Microsoft must pay for each copy it sells on.
They've even managed to fit in some actual dragons. No expense spared.
BioWare was conspicuously absent at today's EA Gamescom presser, cruelly shunned in favour of minute upon horrendous minute of incredibly sugary Sims 4 footage. EA did take a moment to screen a new developer diary, however, which is laced with shots of environments, concept art and demons.
Which is voiced by Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
Don't watch the trailer below unless you're happy to have Patrick Stewart's voice in your head for the rest of the afternoon - I can still hear him yelling "SCORE" as I type these words. Way to get a non-FIFA fan interested in FIFA 14, EA.
Plus 12 bonus Battlepacks and lots of perks. No, not with a capital "P".
EA has revealed what you'll get with Battlefield 4 Premium, the next incarnation of DICE's elite content club. $50 (roughly #163;30) nabs two week early access to all five of the game's expansion packs, plus a number of perks.
New mode and map aired at EA's Gamescom presser.
Battlefield 4's multiplayer beta will begin this October on Xbox Live, DICE and EA have announced at the latter's Gamescom show. The show's on-going - more as we get it.
Mirror's Edge with a jetpack, plus Gundam. Sploosh.
EA has demoed a new Titanfall mode during its Gamescom press event, known as Attrition. It looks - well, "impressive" is putting it mildly. The only way it could be more impressive is if they got Patrick Stewart to narrate it - alas, he was too busy narrating the latest FIFA 14 trailer. Gosh.
It's like Battlefield's Commander mode, but vegetable-based.
Plants Versus Zombies: Garden Warfare - a game that openly parodies Modern Warfare - will receive an Xbox One exclusive mode known as Boss Mode, which openly parodies Battlefield's Commander Mode. All we need now is some sort of reference to tea-bagging in Halo, and PopCap will have recruited every major multiplayer FPS label to the cause.
Titanfall, Need for Speed, Battlefield 4 tipped to make a big splash.
EA's Gamescom press event will begin at 3pm today, and unlike Microsoft's show this morning, there's a swanky livestream for you to coo at. Games tipped to appear include Battlefield 4 (which I went to see in completely unrelated circumstances recently), Titanfall, Need for Speed: Rivals and, just possibly, Mystery Surprise Guest. Shut down your email client, dim the lights and pull up a chair.
"In the end, the games do the talking - and we can't wait for you to play.".
Lo, the prodigal son hath returned. Microsoft's European development boss Phil Spencer has written a few thoughts about where Xbox One will head after release. Thank god you've come along to the party, Phil - we're starting to run out of ways to ask your associate Phil Spencer (aka Phil: NTSC Edition) whether Microsoft has signed anybody up to develop Crackdown 3. Speak unto your People, Phil. Tell us of the wonders that await.
Turn 10 touts "truly cutting edge scientific understanding of tire physics, suspension geometry, and aerodynamics".
Turn 10's rolled out two new Forza Motorsport 5 tracks in time for Gamescom, including the new Spa-Francorchamps course in Belgium - a track we've never had a chance to tackle in a Forza game. It's joined by the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit from a previous Forza. Both tracks have been laser-scanned and, in Laguna Seca's case, updated to the hilt to take advantage of Xbox One.
Acti also announces co-op mode Blitz, Xbox One bundle with "special bonus content".
Call of Duty: Ghosts will receive dedicated server support on Xbox One, Activision has announced. Microsoft will also sell a special Ghosts Xbox One console bundle with exclusive content, sold via GAME in the UK.
It's a Kinect-only game "that can rival any modern brawler".
Ubisoft has confirmed Fighter Within for Xbox One, following rumours of its existence only yesterday. The game's a Kinect exclusive which "pits two players against each other in a brutal showdown that includes all kinds of kicks, punches, grapples, throws, counters and bruising special moves". It's styled very much like a period martial arts flick, with lovely historical attire and many a bruised cheekbone. Take a look.
11 maps at launch - create a gladiator, custom match types.
Crytek has finally unveiled Ryse: Son of Rome's multiplayer component, which is basically Gladiator only with 100% less Russell Crowe and 100% more character customisation. You'll be able to customise your own hero and create challenges by mixing and matching 11 launch day maps with various modes. The very first video is below. We who are about to die...
Confirmed: offer applies to future and existing preorders.
It's happening. Microsoft will give away a free copy of FIFA 14 to anybody who preorders an Xbox One - and anybody who's already preordered an Xbox One. More soon.
Play current and classic footballers alongside one another.
The Xbox One version of FIFA 14 will receive an exclusive Ultimate Team Legends mode, Microsoft has announced. This will allow you to roll together contemporary and classic footballers into one big bundle of tactically efficient nostalgia.
