"We will soon find that the computational requirements of games will quickly hit the ceiling of a few gigs of ram.".
The Xbox One might have a gazillion times the RAM of the Xbox 360, but that still isn't enough for Ryse: Son of Rome developer Crytek. Speaking to GamingBolt, US engine business development manager Sean Tracy has opined that forthcoming games will "easily" exhaust the RAM offered by both Microsoft's new console and its Dick Dastardly-esque rival, the PS4.
Rumoured to be bought for $1 billion.
Streaming service Twitch is rumoured to be bought by Google for $1 billion, according to sources "familiar with the pact," which makes us think of some type of witchcraft.
Also drops hints about E3 2014 conference reveals.
It's confirmed, people - Halo 5: Guardians will have deserts, buildings, bridges, flags, weird alien tadpoles and, erm, concept artworks like the artwork just published by 343's franchise development director Frank O'Connor, in which there are deserts, buildings, bridges, flags and weird alien tadpoles.
But Assassin's Creed: Unity is next gen only...
Ubisoft has pledged that it will continue to support the Assassin's Creed franchise on Xbox 360 - even though its most recently announced title, Assassin's Creed: Unity, is only being developed for next gen consoles.
343 hints at "special plans" it has in store for Halo fans this year.
343 Industries today announced its plans to release both Xbox One game Halo 5: Guardians and the Halo TV series in 2015. But, it also hinted that fans wouldn't have to wait that long to get their next Halo fix, and that news of some "special plans" would be revealed at this year's E3.
The series will "stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience".
Typical. You wait around all year for Halo news, and then a tonne drops all at once. Not only are we getting a new Halo game on Xbox One, Halo 5: Guardians, but we're also getting that much-talked about Halo TV series, which is being made by none other than legendary Hollywood director, Steven Spielberg.
The next chapter of Master Chief's saga will launch autumn 2015.
Happy Friday to one and all. It's a big day for OXM, as it's Log's last day in the office before he runs away to Nottingham to run a pub. Sad times, for those left behind by him here in London at least. On a cheerier note though, here's an extra tasty morsel of news: the next Halo game has officially been announced as Halo 5: Guardians.
The future of Kinect Sports Rivals creator now that Kinect is no longer in the box.
Xbox boss man Phil Spencer has told OXM that Microsoft is "working closely" with "important" UK developer Rare, who he describes as being an "important studio". Rare reformed as the flagship Kinect studio for Microsoft, so questions are raised over what the studio will do next.
Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions affected.
Every silver lining has a dark cloud. Moments after announcing Far Cry 4 for Xbox One, Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy's The Division will miss its 2014 release date on all platforms, as rumoured.
Will also be available on Xbox 360.
Kaboom! Ubisoft has announced Far Cry 4 for release on 18th November 2014 - it's coming to both Xbox One and Xbox 360, and will "deliver the most expansive and immersive Far Cry experience ever." Check out the boxart below. I like those shoes.
"RUN OR SHOT.".
And they say that Japanese arcade games are dead. More like undead, amirite? Fnar fnar. Here's the first gameplay trailer for Left 4 Dead Survivors - aka Left 4 Dead Arcade Edition - a licensed spin-off from Taito that will be available in Japan soon. Among other things, you can expect "ZOMBIE and ZOMBIE and ZOMBIEs". Story checks out, I guess.
4J Studios tweet bird's eye view of next gen.
Lookit, is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a single screenshot of Minecraft for Xbox One. Somebody put a towel over Ed's head till he calms down.
Another cute, quirky indie platformer for the new console.
After years on the frontlines of, erm, writing about videogames, there's little space in my heart for the squishiness of sentiment. And yet, even I'll admit to being moved by this trailer for The Adventures of Pip, in which a lowly pixel strives to become a full-grown 2D sprite. It's enough to make you sob uncontrollably. Excuse me while I blow my nose on this expenses claim.
Talk to showcase previously unseen footage of titles old and new.
Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades will reveal the developer's upcoming games at this year's GDC Europe, the event's official site has revealed. New games, eh? Could one have anything to do with the mysterious blue-haired lady spotted in the company's sizzle reel a while back?
"We were definitely getting some Dead Space moments.".
A third-person Call of Duty that takes place during the Vietnam War is still an option for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games, co-founders Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield have told Game Informer. The project was in development for "at least six to eight months" across 2009 and 2010, but Sledgehammer ultimately shelved it in order to help Infinity Ward complete Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The creators of There Came An Echo and Fantasia: Music Evolved chime in.
Only great games can make a case for the on-going existence of Kinect, according to Harmonix, creators of Disney Fantasia: Music Evolved, and Iridium, developer of There Came An Echo.
"We are committed Xbox One and making Xbox One the best next gen console gaming platform".
Microsoft man Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has taken to Reddit to thank Xbox One fans and assure them that this isn't the end of the road for Microsoft's grand Kinect vision.
$100 price point is "unlikely", says Microsoft.
"You can't fire me - I quit!" is the phrase that comes to mind when I contemplate the parting of Xbox One and Kinect. The console itself will be sold separately from 9th June - the date of Microsoft's reportedly game-centric E3 conference - and a standalone Kinect SKU will also become available later in the year. Perhaps we should take a picture of them both, facing away from each other with their arms folded, while the family lawyer rambles on about who gets custody of the kids.
Capybara's lunatic side-scroller finally arrives.
Capybara's Super Time Force - a pixellated mind-merge of Back to the Future, the Power Rangers and 16 bit gaming at large - is finally here.
