Microsoft promises to get things up and running again as soon as possible.
If the four-day weekend wasn't long enough for you and you're still glued to your Xbox 360 or Xbox One, beware - online games of GTA 5 and Call of Duty: Ghosts may be affected by some planned engineering work this morning.
Ubisoft to add story-driven co-op mode in latest AC title.
What do we know about Assassin's Creed: Unity so far? One, that it's taking place in 18th Paris, and two, it's set to launch on new generation consoles only. Oh, and if recent rumours are to believed, it'll feature a four-player story-led co-op mode. How about that.
"After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave?".
What's Master Chief up to nowadays? I suspect that he's reclining on a pile of silken cushions, surfing the Discovery channel and mashing handfuls of grapes against his visor, but Brian Reed may have a better idea. He's the writer of the eighth Halo: Escalation comic, which explores the "secret events that immediately follow the end of Halo 4".
Titanfall also the top-selling game in the US throughout March.
Worldwide sold-in (shipped) figures of Xbox One have hit a pretty impressive milestone: five million consoles have been sent around the world to make a new home in lounge rooms. Hear that? That's the sound of champagne corks popping and the collective hands of Microsoft patting itself on the back for a job well done.
"So we're going down there?".
Pictures are generally worth a thousand words, but the below piece of Evolve concept art - discreetly posted to the game's Twitter feed last month - only needs to be worth three: "Underground", "Darkness" and "Insects".
Announcement will happen on 22nd April.
Codemasters has something to share. What could it be? Well, let's run through the evidence: (1) there's a teaser video up on the GRID Youtube channel, (2) It's full of car noises, and (3) The video tagline is "brace yourselves - racing is coming". Sorry, I've got nothing. Any thoughts to share?
Don't break our hearts again, internet.
Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media has filed three trademarks for "Nuka Cola" as regards games, entertainment services and apparel, in what smells like evidence that a new Fallout game is in production. Now where have I heard that one before?
Also: Sony passed up opportunity to share info about PS4.
Titanfall wouldn't have been released at all without some last-minute investment from Microsoft, according to a fascinating, book-length report on the game's tumultuous development.
"Have you ever attacked a 25-point city in Civilization? It is painful.".
Games can be a platform for powerful anti-war messages, according to Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi. Don't believe him? You clearly haven't played enough Civilization.
Also: Stand around in the Exalted Plains at your own risk.
Why would you buy Dragon Age: Inquisition for Xbox One, as opposed to your trusty old Xbox 360? Seemingly, because you'll get better water. Posting over on the BioWare blog, environment artists Andrew Farrell and Ben McGrath have said a little more about the game's technical make-up, using the Exalted Plains region as a case in point.
All references to Xbox One version pulled from the game's official site.
Well now this is curious, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game appears to have been indefinitely delayed, perhaps even cancelled, for the Xbox One. The official site is still offering pre-orders for the Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS and PC versions, but artwork depicting the Xbox One box cover has been pulled, with no reason given for the sudden disappearance.
"I don't know whether we've disrupted" the shooter status quo, says designer.
Respawn ain't in it for the money, ladies. OK, it's in it for some of the money, but only insofar as this means it can continue to make games like Titanfall. Speaking to Gamespot yesterday, producer Drew McCoy admitted to not knowing whether the studio's debut game had earned its keep.
It's registered as an 'online computer game,' apparently.
In this day and age, a company filing a trademark for something doesn't mean much. It certainly doesn't mean that a new Xbox game is definitely, 100% in development. But hey, it might mean exactly that.
The Wolf Among Us indeed.
My favourite game glitch of all time came about halfway through Dead Space 3, when I managed to trigger an enemy reinforcements wave during a cutscene. They proceeded to chop me apart, but Isaac Clarke's heavily mutilated torso decided to act out the rest of the scene regardless. The show must go on, etc.
The World's Greatest Detective ain't got nothing on us.
What's in a screenshot? It's all in the eye of the beholder. You see, some may look at the latest batch of Batman: Arkham Knight screens and simply see Bruce laying into a gang on nondescript thugs. I look at them and I see clues as to the overarching story of Rocksteady's third and final Arkham game. I may be completely wrong, of course, but hey - it's fun to guess.
Free updates will include everything from fixes to new features.
In addition to Titanfall's recently announced premium DLC plans beginning with Expedition, developer Respawn has promised to continue to support and improve the game via free regular updates.
Marty O'Donnell takes his leave of the Destiny developer.
Halo: Combat Evolved's wistful yet energetic main theme has comfortably stood the test of time. Alas, the same can't be said of composer Marty O'Donnell's place at Bungie - he's just been let go in rather mysterious circumstances.
Rapper calls the action in multiplayer, ya dig?.
West Coast rap legend Snoop Dogg (formerly Snoop Lion, formerly Snoop Dogg) is the new voice of multiplayer in an upcoming DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
"Crazy prototypes" under way in the background.
If you're looking for reassurance that Ubisoft's shared-world shooter The Division won't slip back to next year, try this on for size: the developer has a few new projects on the way, too. They don't appear to be very far along, so the odds of an E3 2014 reveal are fairly low.
Fallout, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, Prototype and more reduced.
This week's deals don't begin and end with Batman's unfortunate tumble down the pricing ladder - no sir. Microsoft has just announced a special spring sale, with a bunch of Games on Demand and DLC packs on offer.
