You can now sign up to beta test Rocket League, the
Rocket League, despite having a much shorter name, plays a lot like its predecessor. Both games can be described simply as a game of soccer where you control a car that can jump and flip in the air. Based on what I've played so far, it's every bit as exhilarating as SARPBC, with the added benefit of being able to easily save replays of your best saves and goals, thanks to the PS4's Share button.
The full version of Rocket League is expected out this summer.
This is the best weapon to use as training wheels when you start your quest. It's pretty lightweight, so it allows you to run in and thrash on your enemies without tuckering out. You may graduate to better weapons as you continue, but when you're naked and afraid the saw cleaver will see you through.
2. Hunter Armor Set
You can purchase the Hunter armor early on, but you can also drop into the sewers before you face the first boss to snatch a set for free. It's got different stats than the Bath Messenger's Yharnam Hunter set too! Every bit helps when you start out so weak.
3. The Hunter Axe
The Hunter Axe is another early weapon, but you can hold onto it for a long time by fortifying it with blood stones and gems. It's got incredible reach, and enough devastating power to stun most enemies with a full charge. Once you learn to time its heavy swings, you become an unstoppable force.
4. Father Gascoigne's Armor Set
After wailing against an impenetrable boss for hours, nothing's more satisfying than wearing the clothes off his back. You can purchase them when your Insight hits 10 from the Insight Bath Messenger hidden in the Hunter's Dream.
5. The Repeating Pistol
This fella can be tough to manage since it sucks up your ammo at 2 bullets a shot. It's worth it to have in your arsenal though. For stunning giant targets, accept no substitute. You can purchase it after defeating the first boss.
6. Doll Armor Set
As you get deeper into Bloodborne you'll quickly realize armor doesn't carry the same weight it did in the Souls games (literally and figuratively). While you can mix and match sets to min/max stats for particular situations, you'll ultimately find the sets to be fairly balanced and mostly a matter of fashion. There's no shame in sporting the Doll set.
7. Ludwig's Holy Blade
You can buy Ludwig's Blade inside Hunter's Dream after you acquire the Radiant Sword Hunter Badge. If you've been around the block in the Souls games, then you'll feel right at home wielding this versatile death dealer.
8. Crowfeather Armor Set
In addition to looking ridiculously creepy and cool, the Crowfeather set has high blood defense, which could give you an edge against a fellow hunter in PvP. Fashionborne is the way to rock it.
9. The Tonitrus
If not the absolute best weapon in the game, the Tonitrus (aka the lightning mace) is at least the most fun to wield. When it's tricked it out, it deals some major bolt damage on enemies. Snatch it up outside Yahar'gul Chapel.
10. Bone Ash Armor Set
In addition to being menacing as hell, the Bone Ash set has some of the best overall physical defense stats in the game. It's very popular in PvP too, kinda the equivalent of everyone choosing Ken in Street Fighter. (Image via Six String)
11. The Cannon
You can score yourself a cannon in the Forbidden Woods, and you'll be so glad you did. It consumes a whopping 10 Blood Bullets per fire, but it's a great party trick to bust out on an unsuspecting invader, particularly when you spend all the stones and rocks necessary to upgrade it fully.
12. Graveguard Armor Set
If you're a Dark Souls veteran looking to replace your Crimson set, then you've found your match. If you want the cool hooded mask that goes along with it, continue where you found the set and look for the road with a fire and a whole lotta snakes.
13. The Threaded Cane
Many swear by the Threaded Cane, and while you may be tempted to call them crazy, it's got tremendous reach, and its whip form works great for crowd control. It's a bit harder to stagger enemies with, but in a skillful player's hands, you can witness the second coming of Simon Belmont.
14. Cainhurst Armor Set
Cainhurst is maxed out in physical defense stats, so it's tempting to keep it on once you acquire it. Keep in mind it's weak in elemental defense, so make sure to swap it if you face a boss that dishes out elemental damage.
15. The Blade of Mercy
After helping Eileen the Crow (or killing her if that's how you roll), you'll get the Crow Hunter Badge which allows you to purchase Blade of Mercy. It's a trick weapon, so when it's transformed you'll be duel-wielding daggers and taking out bosses like yesterday's garbage.
16. Choir Armor Set
This is the outfit you'll want to switch to when you're up against a magic blasting foe if you're maining the Cainhurst set. You'll be as clean as a church boy with the highest magic defense stats Bloodborne has to offer. (Image via QP Games)
17. The Stake Driver
The Stake Driver catches a lot of heat for its poor range, but it scales decently with strength and skill. If you get over your fear of fighting in close quarters and practice with charging a bit, you'll unlock its true potential.
18. The Wooden Shield
Just kidding. The shield was almost certainly included in the game as a joke, since Bloodborne's design pushes you to be fast and agressive. Although, as weak as the wooden shield is, you could use it to show off in a weaponless challenge run.
Star Wars: Battlefront will be without one major gaming mode when it's released: a single player campaign. Bummer? Kinda, yeah. But if you like to play alone, there's an offline solo mode to hone your skills in.
2. Crafted missions
With a lack of campaign mode in Battlefront, the game will focus instead on crafted missions. These missions can be played alone, online co-op or a split screen.
3. Star Wars: Battlefront looks gorgeous
The trailer that dropped at the Star Wars Celebration in April used actual game footage in tease. The worlds of Endor and Hoth look as good as any next-gen game around.
4. No prequel era
Don't expect to see many call-backs to the prequel trilogy. It's obvious that the developers of Star Wars: Battlefront are keeping their focus on the original trilogy and the future of the franchise.
5. 40-player battles sound awesome
One of the improved gameplay features is huge battles that will involve up to 40 players. You'll feel like you're actually in the Star Wars universe!
6. Bon voyage, space battles
Space battles from Star Wars: Battlefront II are a thing of the past. Too bad, right? You'll be stuck to planet-based battles in this installment.
7. Playable "Heroes"
The upcoming installment of the next Star Wars game will let you play as a handful of "hero" characters. Darth Vader and Bobba Fett are some of the original trilogy players that can be unlocked.
8. Four planets confirmed
A handful of familiar worlds will be gracing the gameplay of Star Wars: Battlefront. Endor, Hoth and Tattoine return from the original trilogy, while a new world Sullust will be introduced.
9. Equal opportunity Stroomtroopers
According to the game's developers, you're able to play as a male or female stormtrooper in the upcoming edition.
10. Fly high
TIE fighters, X-wings and the majestic beast that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, the Millennium Falcon, are all flyable crafts in Star Wars: Battlefront.
11. Hop on and destroy
Not only have the locations for the battles in Star Wars: Battlefront been revealed, so have the vehicles you can ascertain while battling. On Endor, gamers can hop on speed bikes and AT-ATs. On Hoth, try riding a snow speeder.
12. First AND third person mode
Gamers will have their druthers when it comes to which style of shooter they want to play as. You'll be able to switch freely between first and third person view.
13. Everyone's favorite droids will make an appearance
R2-D2 and C-3PO will continue to be a major influence in all of Star Wars, and that includes video games. The droids will reportedly have some kind of role in Battlefront.
14. Free DLC
Die-hard Star Wars fans can get their fix on a new planet by preordering Battlefront. If you do, you'll get the Battle of Jakku DLC a week earlier than the Dec. 8 release.
15. Release date confirmed
The anticipation for all-new Star Wars content is keeping us on the edge of our seats, but the wait is almost over. Battlefront will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on Nov. 19.
The infamous Left Shark from Katy Perry's Super Bowl halftime show is set to be immortalized in --Left Shark rose to prominence due to a less-than-first-rate dancing routine. This quickly became a meme that Perry has since capitalized on by selling Left Shark-themed merchandise and attempting to trademark the name and its design.
Back on the ground, combat in X is the same as it was in Xenoblade Chronicles. Arts--special physical and magical attacks that can be used to knock enemies to the ground and cast protective shields around party members--make a return. Characters have two weapons: a manual weapon like a sword or daggers, and a gun. Both weapon types have their own special Arts abilities, and being able to switch between spraying enemies with bullets at a distance and hacking and slashing up close is a nice touch. It makes you feel powerful, and maybe gives you a little more confidence in having the tools to take down larger enemies.
One thing about roaming enemies, however: their levels don't scale to your characters' levels. That one area under the overhang will always harbor a level 50 monstrosity, no matter if you're level 10 or level 60. Because of this, you have to be careful which monsters you engage as you explore areas. You can typically take down enemies two or three levels stronger than you, but any higher than that is a risk. Enemies' levels are displayed over their heads, and some of them have a tiny eye-shaped icon that indicates they will attack if you're in their line of site. Most enemies don't have this stipulation, and you can freely pass by them without incident; they won't attack you unless you attack first.
I spent most my time with X exploring the large area of the map left open for me, attacking monsters as I saw fit (and dying when I was overbold). I also pursued a side quest that led me to an alien stronghold--yes, aliens--and the story gave me the choice to leave them alone and scope for intel or run in guns blazing. I chose the latter, and ultimately paid for it with my life and a checkpoint setback.
On the surface level, Xenoblade Chronicles X is just more Xenoblade Chronicles: it has the same style of combat, the same quest structure, and the same central idea of humanity struggling to rebuild and survive. But X builds wonderfully on these ideas, granting access to a larger, more complex space in which to carry out its role-playing goodness. There's much more to the game than just exploring and fighting--we've yet to get hands-on time with dolls, the weaponized mechs used by humans--but from what I've already seen, Xenoblade Chronicles X will be a welcome addition to RPG fans' repertoires and the Wii U library itself.
