When choosing which job to main in an MMORPG, for many it's important to know what's hot and what's not. Nothing is worse than devoting dozens of hours to leveling something that is too popular to get into groups with. Square Enix is a rare breed when it comes to this information, formally releasing Final Fantasy XIV statistics on an annual basis.
I didn't actually even get around to talking about the awesome battle system in this video, but uh, well, the game is really well remembered for its battle system. I recorded and edited audio about it, but just ran out of video time due to being too sappy and nostalgic about other stuff in the game. Had to cut something, and that ended up being it. I never imagined it, but then I realized, hey, self, this isn't a review, it's a series of old manish memories and stories and feels. Maybe I'll stick that note in the eventual Grandia II episode as like, a lead in. Man, losing your mind sucks.
Don't those gentlemen look snazzy in their Persona 3-inspired outfits? They sure do, and they're grooving to good music as part of the great rhythm game known as Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
In August of last year GamerGate blew up into a spectacle of disagreement. Gamers who have been historically known for being unified were divided into two opposing groups, those labeled pro-GamerGate and the anti-GamerGate. Although it seemed as simple as gaming journalists vs gamers, it wasn't so simple. Many gaming journalists stood their ground, arguing that they represent gamers everywhere, unpersuaded by the unspoken luxuries gifted by publishers. They would be joined by the few gamers who felt that gaming journalism isn't as corrupt as it's said to be.
Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax isn't out stateside yet (or is it? I don't look things up), but it's old news in Japan. And you know how I feel about old news. It's honestly kinda middling as a fighting game — better, of course, if you're a fan of the source material. Such is, after all, the meaning of fan... service. Since this game has characters from Virtua Fighter, Valkyria Chronicles and a bunch of animu, I'm fucking in.

Earlier this year I completed Demon's Souls with no armor, shields, magic, or bows as part of Challenge Accepted. Years ago it would have been enough to simply beat the game, but I surprised myself by overcoming all odds and naked rolling my way to victory. It's time to do it all over again with the next game in the series, Dark Souls.
I started playing more Rocket League again this week with a couple of friends, and now we've graduated to ranked games. The heightened stakes add an extra layer of tension, but that's nothing compared to the matches that took place in the first MLG tournament for Rocket League.

By the grace of Frictional Games, I got the chance to play a larger portion of SOMA than I was able to at E3 earlier this year and have put together a few highlight videos of my playthrough. Check out the two video reels in the feature below.

My city in Cities: Skylines is a utopia with Japanese parks, low pollution, and health-conscious policies, but one thing has always been missing: nighttime. That's where the first expansion for the game, After Dark, comes in.
Releasing September 24 for $14.99 on PC, Mac, and Linux, After Dark brings a day-and-night cycle to the surprise sleeper hit. Developer Colossal Order breaks down some of the expansion's new features in a lengthy post on its official forums.
Along with daytime beachfront properties and systems for prisons, bike lanes, and taxicabs, nighttime adds a visual layer to every building for nicely-lit windows as well as neon signs scattered about the city. Most citizens will stay at home, opening traffic so that you can identify problem areas but letting thieves come out under the cover of darkness.
With the separate nighttime budget, you can have garbage trucks, hearses, and late-night buses operate more actively to take advantage of the open traffic, and have police cars patrol the streets more thoroughly. Check out the gallery below for a batch of new screenshots of After Dark.
